Seventh annual Women's Health Day set for September 27

The Auxiliary of Veterans Memorial Hospital together with Elliott Jewelers of Waukon will be hosting the seventh annual Women’s Health Day wellness event and luncheon Tuesday, September 27 at the Waukon Banquet Center. All ages are invited to attend this educational event, beginning at 11 a.m. with a wellness fair offering a variety of free health tests and information. A salad luncheon and program will then be held from 12 Noon to 1 p.m.

Funding measures passed, board seats retained in area school elections

Voters in both the Allamakee Community and Eastern Allamakee Community School Districts gave their approval to the continuation of existing funding measures listed as part of the ballots for the Tuesday, September 13 School Election. Listed as Public Measure C on each particular ballot, the funding measures include a Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL) in the Allamakee Community School District and an Instructional Support Levy in the Eastern Allamakee Community School District.

Patriot Day event scheduled for this Sunday at Waukon City Park

All plans are reportedly in place for the 2011 Northeast Iowa Patriot Day celebration being held at the Jaycee shelter near the ball diamond in the Waukon City Park in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The event, scheduled for Sunday, September 11 at 1 p.m., will include the honoring of area service men and women who have returned from service since the attacks.

School board seats, funding measures on September 13 School Election ballots

Voters in the Allamakee Community and Eastern Allamakee Community School Districts will be joining those statewide in going to the voting polls for the Tuesday, September 13 School Election. Area voters will not only be seeking to elect leadership to their respective School Boards, but also voting to continue their respective funding levies labeled Public Measure C on each particular ballot.

Lansing native trio continues its marathon effort to raise awareness/funds for PTSD

For the second consecutive year, Denise Becker of Lansing and her daughters, Jennifer Becker and Jessica Verdon, ran the Rock and Roll 1/2 Marathon in Chicago, IL in an attempt to raise awareness and funding for veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
