Jerry Halverson, Chairman of the Allamakee County Republican Central Committee, is seeking assistance in helping co-sponsor a 2011 Patriots Day celebration being planned at the Waukon City Park in honor of the 10th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States. The event is being planned for Sunday, September 11 at 1 p.m. and will include the honoring of area service men and women who will be returning or have returned from service since the attacks.

Northeast Iowa Resource Conservation & Development, a non-profit organization looking to help improve, protect and develop the areas economic, natural and social resources, has been collaborating with the Iowa Department of Transportation, David L. Dahlquist, Shive-Hattery, Voltmer, Inc., and the Driftless Area Scenic Byway Board to develop and install new signage along the Driftless Area Scenic Byway.

The Allamakee County 4-H Youth Committee is proud to recognize Patsy Kerndt as the 2011 Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame inductee from Lansing. Kerndt was selected for her outstanding service and dedication to the Allamakee County 4-H Program.
Kerndt has been a long-time supporter of the Allamakee County 4-H Program. Her 4-H involvement has spanned more than 34 years - from her years as a 4-H club leader, a member of the Youth Committee, and a 4-H exhibit judge.

Dan, Jane, Leeta, Lars, Landon and Leslie Sivesind were awarded the Bernie Heffern Memorial 4-H Family plaque before the 4-H/FFA Livestock Auction July 24 by the Bob and Bernie Heffern family. The award was designed by the Heffern family in memory of Bernie Heffern who believed in the community service spirit of 4-H of helping others.

It's a "50 Reunion", as the Waukon community now has 50 Eagle Scouts and Waukon Boy Scout Troop 64 has 50 Eagle Scouts. The reunion will take place September 24 at the Vet's Hall in Waukon.
J.R. TeKippe was the 50th Eagle Scout for the Waukon community when he achieved the rank in 2010, and Luke Schulte is now the 50th Eagle Scout for Troop 64 after his honoring earlier this year. The first Eagle Scout in the Waukon community was Marvin Beck of Troop 26 in 1944, back when there were two Boys Scout troops in Waukon.

The annual Waukon Corn Days celebration will take place throughout next week with several days of activities planned. A new addition to this year's festivities will include a musical performance Friday, August 5 by the Buck Hollow Band from 7 to 11 p.m. in the Waukon State Bank parking lot. The event is open to all ages for an admission fee.
The musical event will be held rain or shine, with the rain location at the Waukon Banquet Center. Proceeds from the Friday evening event will go toward the improvement of downtown Waukon.
 
A WEEK FULL OF EVENTS

This week, July 20-24, the 158th Allamakee County Fair will be held for all to enjoy at the Allamakee County Fairgrounds in Waukon. A wide variety of entertainment  - including some new and nationally recognized talent - is in place to headline this year’s fair at the grandstand, along with a great deal of other activities for everyone to enjoy each and every day throughout the five-day event.
