Nationwide test of Emergency Alert System to be conducted November 9

The members of Main Street Matters in Lansing and the Allamakee County Historic Preservation Commission want to build a record of the history of Lansing’s Main Street to share with all. To that end, they received a CLG grant from the State Historical Society of Iowa and hired a consultant, Molly Meyer Naumann, an architectural historian, and with her help are pulling together photos, newspaper items and personal reminiscences reaching back as far as possible.

Cheryl Livingston of Veterans Memorial Hospital honored with 2011 Iowa Hospital Hero Award

Cheryl Livingston, Paramedic at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, was awarded the Iowa Hospital Hero Award Thursday, October 6 in Des Moines during the Iowa Hospital Association annual meeting. Any Iowa hospital employee or physician who has performed a heroic deed or tirelessly given of their time, talent and expertise to improve their organization and the world around them is eligible for the Iowa Hospital Heroes Award. These leaders exemplify honesty, integrity, humility, courage and commitment.

Reunion of Waukon's first 50 Eagle Scouts held September 24

Saturday evening, September 24, a reunion was held at the Vet's Club in Waukon for Waukon's first 50 Eagle Scouts. Only 19 Eagles were able to attend, as pictured at left, but many others sent letters about their lives since becoming Eagle Scouts, and those letters were printed in a booklet which is available by contacting John Troendle. Many parents of those who could not attend were also there in their place.
