School record time is one-thousandth of a second from winning a State Meet medal ... Kee girls track freshman Addison Winters clears a hurdle in the Class 1A 100 meter hurdle preliminaries at the State Track Meet at Drake Stadium in Des Moines Friday, May 19. Winters also completed the 400 meter hurdle circuit in a time of 1:10.82 that placed her 19th among the 24 Class 1A qualifiers in that event, and she teamed up with junior Mallory Mohn and seniors Alaina Bakewell and Jaylyn Walleser to help Kee’s 4x200 relay to a 24th-place finish in 1:52.27 and its sprint medley relay to a clocking of 1:57.57 for 22nd place among Class 1A qualifiers. Winters sets new 100 meter hurdle school record, misses medal-earning finals by .001 of a second

The Kee girls track team had its 2023 brought to a close where every team longs to have at least some sort of representation. The Lady Hawks were well represented with five different events qualifying for the 2023 State Track Meet held Thursday-Saturday, May 18-20 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.

Competing among the very best Class 1A competitors in each of those five qualified events at this season’s grand finale, the Lady Hawks finished within the top 20 in three of those five events. Although none of those Kee efforts yielded State Meet hardware with a top-eight event finish required to win a medal, one of those Kee events came about as close as one ever could, as a mere thousandth of a second prevented that dream from being realized - at least for now.
