"Northeast Iowa Get Your Rear In Gear" 5K Run/Walk scheduled for October 6 to raise colon cancer awareness

The third annual “Northeast Iowa Get Your Rear in Gear” 5K Run and Walk has been scheduled for Saturday, October 6 to begin at St. Patrick Catholic School, which is located at 106 Second Street SW in Waukon. The event is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. and is part of the nationwide series of "Get Your Rear in Gear" events which raise awareness and funds for colorectal cancer.

Waukon High School to celebrate Homecoming 2012 during next week

Waukon High School will celebrate Homecoming 2012 throughout this next week, September 8-14, and the community is invited and encouraged to take part in the variety of activities being offered during the annual event.
This year’s theme is “Pound the Panthers”. The Waukon Indian football team will be taking on the Central Spring (Manly) Panthers for the very first time in the Friday, September 14 Homecoming game as a result of the new districts this year in Iowa high school football.

Waukon Lions' Pancake Breakfast funds will help purchase new camera for local KidSight Program

The Waukon Lions Club will host its third annual pancake breakfast Sunday, September 9 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Vets Club, located at 105 Allamakee Street in Waukon. Proceeds from the fundraiser will be used to help purchase a high quality digital camera for the Waukon Lions KidSight Program. Waukon's Denzel Decker creates winning design for "Get Your Rear in Gear" 2012 Kids Fun Run t-shirts

In late 2011, "Get Your Rear in Gear" held a t-shirt design contest for the 2012 Kids’ Fun Run t-shirts. Entries came in from across the country and when the voting was over, Waukon youth Denzel Decker’s design rose to the top. Decker’s winning artwork is featured on the kids’ t-shirts that will be distributed at over 40 Get Your Rear in Gear events in 2012.

Recent random alcohol compliance checks result in 100% compliance within Allamakee County

The Allamakee County Substance Abuse Prevention Strategic Prevention Framework State Incentive Grant (SPF-SIG) and the Allamakee County Sheriff’s Office recently collaborated to conduct random alcohol compliance checks of local stores, supermarkets, gas stations, and other businesses. The purpose of this strategy was to see if these establishments would sell alcohol to underage buyers.
Of the 15 locations checked randomly, each and every one of them demonstrated compliance with the law.

Regancrest will host 2013 Farm Progress Hay Expo

The Farm Progress Hay Expo will be heading to northeast Iowa for the 2013 event scheduled for June 19 and 20. The nation’s largest two-day hay event will be held at Regancrest Holsteins north of Waukon.
“Regancrest is well-known and respected in the area for their highly productive dairy genetics and farming practices,” says Matt Jungmann, Farm Progress national events manager. “We are very pleased to have Regancrest as the host for the Hay Expo in 2013.”
