Volunteers needed for Corn Days events

The annual Corn Days event in downtown Waukon is fast approaching, scheduled with a variety of events for Monday, July 30 through Saturday, August 4. The Waukon Chamber of Commerce is still in need of volunteers to help the event run effectively and efficiently. Several volunteers are needed to handle necessary tasks; it is a fact that volunteers are critical to the success of community events such as Corn Days.
Areas still in need of volunteers for the event include the following:
• Wednesday, August 1 (afternoon/evening): Volunteers to husk corn.

Waukon Corn Days to take place next week

This year’s Waukon Corn Days celebration will take place throughout the week of July 30 through August 4, beginning with the Heritage Parade Monday, July 30 that annually kicks off the event and culminating in a Saturday, August 4 performance of area favorite, El Caminos. In between those starting and ending points lies a variety of other events for anyone and everyone to enjoy.

"Good Friends" to perform at July 23 "Music on Main" event in Waukon

The Waukon Chamber of Commerce, along with Culligan Water Conditioning of Waukon, will be hosting another Music on Main event Monday, July 23, beginning at 5 p.m. "Good Friends" of Decorah will perform in the Visitor Center and Area Development office courtyard at 101 West Main Street in Waukon.
The "Good Friends" band consists of musicians who love to play classic country, old-time, bluegrass and gospel music. Seating is limited, so participants are encouraged to bring their own lawn chair. The Chamber will be selling hot dogs, chips and soda, with serving to start at 5 p.m.

Allamakee County 4-H Youth attend Iowa 4-H Conference

Every June, over 1,000 teenagers converge on the campus of Iowa State University in Ames for speakers, workshops, mixers, dances, a banquet and community service activities. The 2012 Iowa 4-H Youth Conference, titled "Brighten Your World", began June 26 and continued through June 28.
Four Allamakee County 4-H delegates were eligible to attend this year's Conference, with three of those being able to make the trip to Ames. Ben Kerndt, Lexie Bieber and Shelby Troendle were all able to attend, with Alex Brown unable to attend.

"Breakfast at the Fair" event will benefit area organizations July 19-21

Several non-profit organizations in Allamakee County will be hosting “Breakfast at the Fair” for the 2012 Allamakee County Fair. Breakfast will be available Thursday, July 19, Friday, July 20 and Saturday, July 21, beginning at 7:30 a.m. and serving until 9:30 a.m. Breakfast will be served in the Appreciation Center building (located behind the Fair Office near the middle of the fairgrounds).

Nominations are being accepted for "Cloy Kuhse Positive Impact Award"

At the Allamakee County Economic Development (ACED) Annual Meeting in 2011, the ACED Board of Directors announced a Business Recognition award. The “Cloy Kuhse Positive Impact Award” was created to honor the late Cloy Kuhse, who was a member of the ACED Board of Directors.
“The Award was created to highlight and recognize a business that is making a positive impact in Allamakee County as well as to honor the memory of Cloy and his vision,” ACED Executive Director Laura Olson stated.

Corner of Hope Field Day scheduled for July 17

The Corner of Hope (COH) Growing Project plans to have a Field Day/Crop Walk event Tuesday, July 17. Members of the COH committee, and any other interested community members, are invited to meet at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon at 6:30 p.m. From there the group will car pool to the various growing fields and end at Ron Snitker’s home for a short meeting and refreshments.
