Robey Memorial Library expansion campaign begins Community Phase

The Robey Memorial Library Expansion Project Capital Campaign has raised over $1.1 million in gifts and pledges, according to Campaign Co-Chairs Ken Olson, MD and Will Ament. Still in pursuit of its $1.4 million goal, the Capital Campaign has now kicked off the Community Phase of its campaign contribution process.

Paul Schafer earns Eagle Scout rank; Court of Honor to be held this Saturday

Paul Schafer of Boy Scout Troop 64 in Waukon will be honored at an Eagle Court of Honor Saturday, June 2 at 1 p.m. at Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church, rural Waterville. Schafer appeared before the Eagle Board of Review in November 2011 and was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout. He is one of the approximately four percent of all Boy Scouts nationally who attain the rank of Eagle Scout.

Waukon Works continues to meet and make organizational progress

The Waukon Works group established a steering committee at its most recent monthly meeting Tuesday, May 15 to help provide guidance for the larger group and subcommittees. Members of that committee are Patty Fosaaen, Mike Myers, Dennis Lyons, Dave Herold, Kris Rausch and Waukon Mayor Loren Beneke.
The majority of the steering committee members worked together on the Allamakee Pride committee that made the construction of the Waukon Wellness Center/NICC Center possible and worked to ensure the passage of the recent bond issue for the Allamakee Community School District.

Meet and Greet event with President Lincoln will kick off Civil War Reenactment planned for 2013

The Civil War Reenactment Executive Committee, recently organized in anticipation of its namesake project next summer, will be holding a Meet and Greet event Friday, June 1 from 2-4 p.m. at the Allamakee County Courthouse Museum in Waukon. Light refreshments will be served during the program.

VMH "Family Wellness Fair" enjoyed by many

The annual “Family Wellness Fair” was held Wednesday, May 9 at Veterans Memorial Hospital (VMH) in Waukon. Nearly 400 individuals attended the wellness fair and enjoyed all the information and activities provided by over 40 agencies and businesses that serve Allamakee County. The “Family Wellness Fair” is held in conjunction with the hospital’s “In Step with VMH” Community Wellness program. This family event is held each spring and is free and open to all members of the area communities.

Waterville man listed in fair condition after logging accident

Daniel Jones of Waterville was seriously injured in a logging accident Tuesday, May 8 in the woods at 2523 155th Avenue in rural Decorah. The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Department reports that Jones was struck by a falling tree adjacent to one he was working on and was trapped under that tree when emergency services arrived at the scene. Jones was transported by helicopter to Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, WI where he is currently listed in fair condition.
