Aaron Forest to receive Eagle Scout Award

Aaron Forest, age 16, of Waverly has earned the highest advancement award the Boy Scouts of America offers to Scouts, the Eagle Scout Award. He will be recognized in ceremonies Sunday, April 15 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Waverly. A member of Wabuha District, Winnebago Council, Troop 90, Forest is one of approximately four percent of all Boy Scouts who attain the Eagle rank.  Each candidate must earn 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community, church or synagogue-related service project to earn his Eagle.

Waukon High School Project Prom April 28

The annual post-prom event has been offered for almost 30 years. Started by a group of parents who wanted to provide a safe and substance-free event for prom-goers following the dance, Waukon was one of the first communities in northeast Iowa to hold such an event.
Post-prom began as a casino night, adding carnival games to accommodate the number and interests of students. In recent years, a hypnotist has performed following the games and other activities.

Community invited to Downtown Forum April 3

All members of the community are invited to participate in a third discussion about the future of downtown Waukon. Allamakee County Economic Development, the Waukon Chamber of Commerce and Waukon Economic Development Corporation are hosting a third downtown forum Tuesday, April 3 from 6-8 p.m. at the Farmers and Merchants Savings Bank Community Room. Light refreshments will be served.

Orders being taken for Veterans Memorial bricks to be placed by Memorial Day

With Memorial Day approaching, the Allamakee County Veterans Memorial Committee would like to remind those interested that orders for individual memorial bricks are still being taken. This year, those interested in ordering a memorial brick should place their order no later than April 30. Every effort will be made to have the bricks ordered by that date in place by Memorial Day.

New planning initiative launched for Iowa Great River Road; Stakeholder meetings scheduled

Since its designation by the U.S. Secretary of Transportation as one of only 150 National Scenic Byways in the United States, Iowa Great River Road projects have been awarded nearly eight million dollars in grants throughout the 10 Iowa counties which border the Mississippi River. Projects supported by these grants include the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium in Dubuque, the Clinton County Eco Tourism Center,  the Louisa Interpretive Center in Louisa County, the restoration of the Fort Madison Depot, the expansion of the E.B.

Farmers & Merchants Savings Bank of Waukon and Decorah has pledged to contribute $75,000 to the Robey Memorial Library Expansion Project Capital Campaign, boosting the campaign to 60% of its fundraising goal.
