Waukon Trees Forever to hold annual Tree Planting April 28

The Waukon Trees Forever Chapter will be holding its annual tree planting session Saturday, April 28, beginning at 8 a.m. Those interested in assisting are asked to meet at the Pamida parking lot in southwest Waukon and to also bring shovels, rakes and gloves to use during the tree planting.
Rain date will be scheduled for Saturday, May 5. Anyone seeking additional information is asked to contact Kenneth Olson, MD of the Waukon Trees Forever Chapter at 563-568-4612.

WHS Post Prom seeking volunteers

Empty Nest Winery receives First Dollar certificate

The Waukon Chamber of Commerce recently presented a First Dollar certificate to Empty Nest Winery, located at 1352 Apple Road west of Waukon. Statistics show both city and rural areas use Robey Memorial Library

Usage of the Robey Memorial Library in Waukon has grown dramatically over the past few years, according to documentation by Library Director Rick Meyer. In addition, library use by rural residents is nearly as high as by city residents of Waukon.
“Approximately 45% of our registered library patrons and 43% of library circulation are from the rural areas outside of the Waukon city limits,” said Robey Memorial Library Director Rick Meyer. “We are pleased with that as it shows how valuable the resources available at the library are to many people in the area.”

Family Fun Day being held to raise funds for playground equipment

In an ongoing effort to raise funds to replace playground equipment adjacent to the Thompson Shelter near the center of Waukon City Park, the Veterans Memorial Hospital Nursing Council and the Healing Hearts Infant Loss Support Group will be hosting a Family Fun Day fundraiser Friday, April 27. The event is being held from 5-7 p.m. at the very shelter near where the equipment of 40-plus years in age is being considered for replacement.

Director of Greater Glory Ministries to speak at New Life Christian Church

Barbara Lanzdorf of St. Paul, MN will be the featured speaker Friday, April 13 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, April 14 at 10 a.m. and again at 7 p.m. at New Life Christian Church, 12 7th Ave. SE in Waukon. Lanzdorf is the director of Greater Glory Ministries based in St. Paul, MN. She has ministered in 27 nations as a missionary, pastor and evangelist.

Plans being made for Waukon High School Project Prom 2012

Waukon High School Prom 2012 is scheduled for Saturday, April 28. Parents of the high school students are again hosting the annual substance-free post prom event at the former Waukon Junior High School gymnasium immediately following Prom, from midnight until 4 a.m.
