St. Patrick's Day Parade March 18

The annual St. Patrick's Day Parade in Waukon has been scheduled for Sunday, March 18. The event will begin at 1 p.m. All the usual activities involving food, music and fun are expected to take place again following the parade.

Lenten Breakfast events to begin this Thursday

The first Women’s Lenten Ecumenical Breakfast will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon Thursday, March 1. All women in the area are invited to attend these events taking place during the Lenten season. The Lenten breakfast events will begin at 6:45 a.m. with breakfast, followed at 7 a.m. with a program.
The Thursday, March 1 program at St. Patrick Church will be presented by Fr. Joe Schneider and his fellow pilgrims, Grace Murphy, Donna Snitker and Esther Walleser, about their trip to the Holy Lands.

Breakfast Buffet event to benefit WSH Post Prom

A Post Prom Breakfast Buffet event is being planned for Saturday, March 3 to benefit the Waukon High School Post Prom. The breakfast event will take place from 7-10 a.m. at Hardee's of Waukon and will feature an all-you-can-eat buffet of pancakes, bacon, eggs, hash rounds, biscuits and gravy, and cinnamon rolls. Carry-outs are available.

Project underway to replace older playground equipment at City Park

The Veterans Memorial Hospital Nursing Council and the Healing Hearts Infant Loss Support Group are currently raising funds to replace playground equipment near the Thompson Shelter, which is located in the middle section of Waukon City Park. The equipment near this shelter is 40-plus years old in some cases and throughout those years these pieces have come to be worn by both weather and usage.

Free dental services offered by local dental teams have big community impact

More than 100 patients received the benefit of free dental care as the 22nd Annual Have a Heart Day was hosted by area dental care providers Saturday, February 11. The event provided an opportunity for kids ages four to 18 years of age, who have not recently seen a dentist for whatever reason, to receive free dental care.

Mosaic expands services in the state of Iowa

Mosaic, based in Omaha, NE, has announced the expansion of services for people with intellectual disabilities in Iowa. The national non-profit organization will purchase the assets of Krysilis, a provider of services for nearly 200 people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the communities of Forest City and Nevada, as well as Wright County in Iowa.

Community invited to next Downtown Forum

All members of the community are invited to participate in a second discussion about the future of downtown Waukon. The first forum was held January 31, with 76 people in attendance. All community members are encouraged to attend and participate in improving Waukon.
Allamakee County Economic Development, the Waukon Chamber of Commerce and Waukon Economic Development Corporation are hosting the second downtown forum Tuesday, February 28 from 6-8 p.m. at the Farmers and Merchants Savings Bank Community Room. Light refreshments will be served.
