Republican candidate debate set for May 21

The Allamakee County Republican Central Committee will be hosting a candidate debate Monday, May 21 for Republican candidates listed on the June 5 Primary Election ballot in Allamakee County. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Farm Bureau building, located at 14 First Avenue NE in Waukon.
Mark Kerndt of Waukon will serve as moderator, and will present questions to the candidates. The general public is invited to the debate and also encouraged to submit questions prior to the start of the debate for the moderator to ask of the candidates.

The Waukon Chamber of Commerce recently presented a First Dollar certificate to BE Catered of Waukon. The Waukon Works Beautification/Streetscape Committee, one of the committees formed from the initial Waukon Works downtown forum meetings, performed a clean-up of the downtown plaza area located at the intersection of Main Street and Spring Avenue Thursday, May 3.

Get involved with "Keep Waukon Beautiful Day" scheduled for Saturday

The third annual "Keep Waukon Beautiful Day" has been scheduled for Saturday, May 12 in the Waukon area, and volunteers are being sought to help take part in the event in an effort to clean up and maintain the appearance of the community. The inaugural event was held two years ago, and more volunteers are being sought this year.
Interested participants are asked to meet at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 12 at the front entrance of Waukon City Park, and groups will then be dispersed to do some roadside clean-up and garbage pick-up through downtown Waukon and the City Park.

"Waukon Works" forum scheduled for May 15

All members of the community are invited to participate in a fourth discussion about the future of downtown Waukon. Allamakee County Economic Development, the Waukon Chamber of Commerce and Waukon Economic Development Corporation are hosting a fourth forum Tuesday, May 15 from 6-7 p.m. at the Waukon Wellness Center Senior Center.

May 19 Big Bikes for Little Tikes event will benefit Terrell Baumler

The 95.7 The Rock Foundation will be hosting a Big Bikes for Little Tikes motorcycle ride Saturday, May 19 for Terrell Baumler of Waukon, 12-year-old son of Ken and Jan Baumler. The event will take bikers on a 100-mile route through the Coulee Region from LaCrosse, WI through LaCrescent and Brownsville, MN to Lansing, Waukon and up through Caledonia, MN back to LaCrosse.

Waukon State Bank makes $75,000 commitment to Robey Memorial Library expansion project

Waukon State Bank continued to show its support of Robey Memorial Library in Waukon and the community it serves with a recent pledge of $75,000 to the library's expansion project capital campaign. Jim Sweeney, Gail Prestemon, Sharon Larson and Pat Friar represented the bank in presenting a $75,000 check to the library campaign's co-chairs, Dr. Ken Olson and Will Ament.

Rain postpones Trees Forever Tree Planting in Waukon to this Saturday

Following a rainy morning this past Saturday, April 28, the Waukon Trees Forever Chapter was forced to postpone its annual tree planting session to this Saturday, May 5, beginning at 8 a.m. Those interested in assisting are asked to meet at the Pamida parking lot in southwest Waukon and to also bring shovels, rakes and gloves to use during the tree planting. Anyone seeking additional information is asked to contact Kenneth Olson, MD of Waukon Trees Forever at 563-568-4612.
