Orvin L. Anderson, 68, of Gays Mills, Wis., passed away Sunday, February 13, 2005, at Vernon Manor, Viroqua, Wis., surrounded by family after a long battle with an illness. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 17, at Utica Lutheran Church with Pastor Gary Wees officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Dommersnaes Bertram Family Funeral Home, Gays Mills, and at the church Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m.

Gottbeheat
Heath Gottbeheat, 19, Ferryville, Wis., was charged with possessing marijuana after a Nov. 24, 2004, traffic stop in Allamakee County.
According to the report, Gottbeheat’s vehicle was pulled over by a pair of deputies at the intersection of South Road and Highway 9 in Lansing for a cracked tail lamp. The deputies were given permission to search the vehicle and located drug paraphernalia in the ash tray. Gottbeheat was arrested and, when booked, was found with marijuana in his possession.

The local Grief Support Group will meet Tuesday, Feb. 22, at 3 p.m. in the Dining Room at Veterans Memorial Hospital.

This informal meeting is open to anyone suffering from any type of loss, whether it be death, divorce, illness, or some other grief.

Please feel free to attend and bring a friend. This grief support group meets the last Tuesday of every month at Veterans Memorial Hospital.

Seniors ages 65 and older make up over 12 percent of the United States population. Of these 33 million individuals, 14 million have a disability. For this population, facing an emergency or disaster can be a frightening possibility. While local officials and relief workers will be on the scene shortly after a disaster, they cannot reach everyone right away.

Chuck and Gen Rude of Decorah will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005, with a family dinner.

Charles Rude of Decorah and Genevieve Larson of Dorchester were married Feb. 19, 1955, at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah.

Their five children are Randy Rude, Joan (Donn) Smedsrud, Sue (Mike) Halverson, all of Decorah, Mary K. (Tom) Swinburn of Rock Island, Ill., and Jeff Rude of Minneapolis, Minn. They also have five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Jessica Reiser and Adam Kurth were united in marriage Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, at First Presbyterian Church, Waukon. Rev. Larry Olson officiated the 3 p.m. ceremony.

Parents of the couple are Mark and Nancy Reiser of Waukon, Dale and Virginia Kurth of Waukon, and Marsha Kurth of La Crosse, Wis. The bride’s grandparents are Dale and Elaine Reiser. Grandparents of the groom are Francis and Celia Garrett and Gerald Kurth.

The Waukon Lion’s Club is in the process of planning for their major annual fundraiser, the Lion’s Variety Show. The show will be held Saturday, April 2, 2005, starting at 7:30 p.m. in the Waukon Senior High auditorium.

The Lions are currently looking for individuals and groups who would like to participate.

Cuaquehua-Tentzohua
Alejandra and Domingo Cuaquehua-Tentzohua of New Albin wish to announce the birth of their second child, Caren Arleth. Caren was born Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, at Veterans Memorial Hospital and was 5 pounds, 13 ounces.
Caren joins a brother, Juan Daniel Cuaquehua, 1.

Dickson-
Steve and Michele Dickson wish to announce the birth of their son, Cullen Paul. Cullen was born Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005, at Winneshiek Medical Center. He was 8 pounds, 6 ounces at birth.
Cullen joins an older brother, Andrew Carl, age 5.

Final loan and loan deficiency availability date Allamakee County producers are reminded of the final availability date to obtain a nine month loan or loan deficiency payment (LDP) on oats, barley, or wheat as being March 31, 2005.

If producers have previously signed a 2004 CCC 709 Direct Payment Request form for oats, barley, or wheat and have yet to turn in their sales documents, they have until March 31, 2005 to do so. Benefits are earned on the date of delivery of the commodity, if there was an LDP on that day.
