Allamakee County Sheriff's Office seeking information on shots fired along North Line Drive

At approximately 1:02 a.m. Friday, October 19, the Allamakee County Sheriff's Office received a report of shots fired in the 200 block of North Line Drive west of Waukon.
Upon arrival, officers located multiple spent small-caliber rifle casings on the roadway near a residence in that location. The house and a vehicle that was parked in front of the residence had been struck by the shots fired, but occupants of the residence were not injured by the gunfire.

Absentee voting information for November 6 General Election; Auditor's office open next two Saturdays

Voters in the Tuesday, November 6 General Election who are unable to go to the polls that Election Day may vote absentee prior to the election. In-person absentee voting can be accomplished at the Allamakee County Auditor’s Office in the Allamakee County Courthouse in Waukon through 4 p.m. Monday, November 5 during the office's regular business hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Allamakee County Auditor’s Office will also be open for in-person absentee voting this Saturday, October 27 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and again Saturday, November 3 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Supervisors hear comments on proposed sand mining operation

Editor's note: The Minnesota Sands Company, LLC has withdrawn its conditional use permit application for a sand mine operation southwest of New Albin in order to consult with the County Engineer on potential truck routes to and from the mine. The Board of Adjustment will meet as scheduled Wednesday, October 24, but the conditional use permit application for the proposed mine will not be on the agenda. The company may resubmit the application at any time.

Candidate forum scheduled for October 23

Allamakee County Economic Development will be hosting a Candidate Forum Tuesday, October 23 at 5:30 p.m. in the Farmers & Merchant Savings Bank Community Room in Waukon. This event is free, open to the public and allows residents to let the candidates and incumbents know what issues are important to residents of this area.
