Representative Bob Hager of Dorchester met with area residents Saturday morning, February 11 at a town hall meeting at the Waukon Wellness Center, where he gave a brief summary on issues he has been working on in Des Moines, such as modifications to the Forest Reserve program, child labor on farms and a bill he introduced to impose congressional term limits.

Lansing selected as Main Street Iowa community

In a ceremony held Tuesday, February 7 at the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines, Governor Terry Branstad announced that Lansing was one of three Iowa communities selected to join the Main Street Iowa program. Lansing joined Chariton and Jefferson as this year's Main Street designees, along with 45 other communities that have previously received the designation.

History meets modern day: Video footage of special Threshing Days event hits YouTube(TM)

A once annual event in the Waukon area aimed at celebrating history and heritage has recently met up with modern day online technology for all to have a chance at reminiscing or learning. Video-taped footage of the famous Sparrow 40-Horse Hitch from the 1993 Threshing Days Parade held in Waukon has recently been uploaded to the YouTubeTM website.

Nominations sought for March 24 Allamakee County Dairy Banquet

The 2012 Allamakee County Dairy Days Banquet will be held Saturday, March 24 at the Allamakee County Fairgrounds Pavilion in Waukon. Every year, top producers from the county are recognized at the banquet. In addition, several other awards are presented that evening.

Rep. Bob Hager to host Town Hall meeting series this Saturday

Representative Bob Hager of Dorchester will be hosting a series of Town Hall meetings in northeast Iowa this Saturday, February 11. Rep. Hager's day will begin with joint meetings scheduled with Senator Merlin Bartz in Winneshiek County at 7:30 a.m. at Engen Express in Ridgeway and at 9 a.m. at Decorah City Hall.
Rep. Hager will then be at the Waukon Wellness Center, 1220 Third Avenue NW in Waukon, beginning at 11 a.m. Joining Rep. Hager at all three of the above sites for a brief introduction will be Republican candidate for Iowa Senate District 28 candidate Michael Breitbach.

Mike Breitbach of Strawberry Point has launched his campaign for the Iowa Senate and pledged to run an aggressive grassroots campaign to represent the newly-created Senate District 28, which includes Clayton and Allamakee counties and portions of Winneshiek and Fayette counties in northeast Iowa.

Former Waukon area man pleads no contest to reckless homicide in case of missing Prairie du Chien, WI woman

In Crawford County, WI Circuit Court Tuesday, January 24, Michael John Burroughs of Prairie du Chien, WI, age 27, pled no contest to, and was found guilty of, First Degree Reckless Homicide, a Class B felony, in the 2006 disappearance of Shannon Fischer, age 23 at the time she went missing.
