That roadside Burma-Shave jingle is vividly remembered by one of the editors of Our Iowa magazine. “It added a bit of fun to each drive as everyone in the car read the sequence of signs aloud,” he says. “I always wished someone would bring those signs back.”
After some thought, the staff of the magazine decided, “Who better to do that than us?”

The Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT), in cooperation with Iowa’s 99 county treasurers, will implement a 10-year license plate replacement cycle beginning April 2. The Iowa DOT is not implementing a new license plate design; the design of the replacement plates will be the same as the current plates.

Denise Beyer of Waukon has announced her candidacy as a Republican candidate for Allamakee County Auditor. She grew up in Waukon and is the daughter of Robert (Bob) and Shirley Schulze.
After graduating from Waukon High School in 1991, she attended Simpson College in Indianola, where she obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. Following college, Denise worked in the accounting departments at J&H/KVI Insurance and Farm Bureau Insurance in West Des Moines, and also worked at Waukee State Bank, before moving back to Waukon to raise their family.

Senator Charles Grassley will be in Waukon and Guttenberg Tuesday, April 10 for town meetings with local residents. Grassley has held at least one meeting with Iowans in every one of the state’s 99 counties since 1980, when he was first elected to serve in the U.S. Senate.

The Iowa City Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Health Care System conducted a ribbon-cutting ceremony followed by an open house for a new VA Outpatient Clinic in Decorah March 22. The new clinic is located at 915 Short Street in Decorah, the location of the former Walmart building, and will provide primary care services that veterans in the local area had to previously drive two-plus hours to receive in Iowa City.
