Senator Tom Harkin has announced that his aide, Linda Lucy, will visit Allamakee County, Wednesday, May 2 to host a mobile office for local residents. The event is part of a statewide tour Harkin staff will host to discuss how ideas obtained from Iowans last year on how to rebuild the middle class have influenced legislation introduced by Harkin.
The mobile office tour begins this month in schools in 30 counties. Lucy will be at Postville High School, located at 314 West Post Street, from 1-2 p.m. that Wednesday. Senator Harkin’s staff will visit all 99 counties during this tour.

An all-terrain vehicle (ATV) accident Sunday evening, April 22 claimed the life of Sandra Jane Ehrhardt, age 50, of rural Monona, according to a report from the Allamakee County Sheriff's Office. The report indicates the sheriff's office received a call at approximately 6:56 p.m. Sunday in regard to the accident at 590 Big Foot Road, rural Monona.

As part of her announcement as a Republican candidate for Allamakee County Auditor, Lana Deeney Snitker will attend the meet and greet event for 2012 Republican candidates to be held at the Farm Bureau Building in Waukon Sunday, April 29.
The daughter of Tom and Diana Deeney, Snitker grew up in Waukon. She has six siblings, Leah, Charles, James, Joey, John and Matt. She and her husband of 12 years, Dustan, have four children, Kaedan, Meridian, Kyrie and Jared.

The Decorah Historic Preservation Commission will be hosting the 2012 Iowa Statewide Historic Preservation Conference Friday and Saturday, April 27 and 28. With registration and many of the break-out sessions being held at the Hotel Winneshiek in downtown Decorah, there will also be field trips and walking tours to a variety of historic area sites.

The Allamakee County Community Foundation (ACCF) is pleased to announce the recipients of its 2012 grant awards. A total of 36 grant applications were submitted requesting over $200,022 in total funding this year.

Scott Campbell was 27 years old when he was last seen. April 16, 1982, he planned to fly in a private plane to North Dakota with another man. Little did he know there was another person on board. The man hiding in the back of the plane killed Campbell and dumped his body into the ocean.

The fate of a 2003 Waukon High School graduate was decided by Crawford County, WI Circuit Court Judge James Czajkowski in Madison, WI Tuesday, April 3 in the 2006 disappearance of Shannon Fischer of Prairie du Chien, WI, age 23 at the time she went missing.
