Paula Valley, 91, of Harpers Ferry passed away at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon Monday, November 2, 2009 following a short illness. A Funeral Mass was said at St. Ann’s-St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Harpers Ferry Friday, November 6.
Paula was born September 10, 1918 in Harpers Ferry at the home of her parents, Mary (Koski) and Patrick Houlihan. She was the valedictorian of her 1935 Harpers Ferry graduating class. In 1939, Paula married Cletus Valley, who preceded her in death in 1967.

Alvin L. Jacobson, 52, of McGregor died Saturday November 7, 2009 from injuries suffered in a fall at his home. Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, November 14 at Thornburg-Hanson Funeral Home in McGregor, with military honors by American Legion, AmVets, and VFW posts of McGregor and Marquette. Friends may call Friday, November 13 from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Bernita R. Hanson, 85, of Waukon died Monday, October 19, 2009 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services were held Thursday, October 22 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waukon, with Rev. Lynn G. Groe officiating. Burial was held in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon.

Ruth Darlene Johnson, 85, of Waukon died Monday, October 26, 2009 as a result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident south of Waukon. Private family services were held.

Bernard T. Steiber, 84, of Lansing died Wednesday October 21, 2009 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon following a long illness. Services were held Saturday, October 24 at the United Methodist Church with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, both in Lansing.
Bernard was born January 2, 1925 in Lansing to Fred and Selma (Dee) Steiber. He graduated from Waterville High School. He married Betty Gramlich June 8, 1946 in Lansing and farmed most of his life.

Leo Benjamin Flage, 84, of Postville died Friday, October 23, 2009 at his home. Funeral Services were held Monday, October 26 at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, rural Postville, with Student Pastor Paul Snyder officiating. Burial followed in the Bethlehem Cemetery, rural Postville.
Leo was born August 15, 1925 in Ludlow Township to Ben and Meta (Held) Flage. He was baptized December 13, 1925 by J. K. Widmayer. Leo attended the Ludlow Country School and Waukon High School through the 10th grade.

Kathleen Janice Smith, 65, of Luana died Friday, October 23, 2009 at the Postville Good Samaritan Center, Postville, following a brief illness. Memorial Services were held Monday, October 26 at the Good Samaritan Center, Postville, with the Rev. Larry Suntken officiating. Inurnment followed in the Postville Cemetery, Postville.
Kathleen was born May 5, 1944 in Postville to Leslie and Jessie (Schultz) Smith. She graduated from MFL High School and the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls.

Judy Ann Erb, 46, of Waukon died Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services were held Monday, October 26 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waukon, with Rev. Lynn G. Groe officiating. Burial was at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon.

Glenn M. Cooper, 66, of Waukon died Sunday, October 25, 2009 at his home in rural Waukon. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 30 at 11 a.m. at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon, with Rev. Keith Selberg officiating. Burial will be held in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, October 29 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.

Kathryn L. Ricker, 98, of Waukon died Tuesday, October 20 at Thornton Manor in Lansing. Funeral services were held Saturday, October 24 at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon. In lieu of flowers, memorials for Kathryn may be made to the donor’s charity of choice.
