Koenig Family celebrates 125th anniversary of family farm

Wilhelm and Charlotte (Meyer) Koenig purchased a farm in Bloomfield Township in 1884. The couple had eight living children including Louise Koenig Kaiser, Louis Koenig, Minnie Koenig Rose Poesch, Mary Koenig Schroeder, Rosina Koenig Ruckdaschel, William Koenig, Lena Koenig Christofferson and Frederick Koenig.

Friederich to manage HiWay Lanes

A new face will be greeting patrons as they enter HiWay Lanes Bowling Center and lounge this fall. Denise Friederich, who has been hired as the manager of HiWay Lanes, is no stranger to the area or the bowling alley. A Postville area native Denise brings much experience to her new position.

Six CNA students graduate from CNA classes

Joyous emotions emanated from St. Paul Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall Thursday, July 30 as six CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) students graduated from training classes held this summer at Postville Good Samaritan Center through a program sponsored by Barnabas Uplift. The sixty-plus people who attended the ceremonies heard speakers from several local sponsoring organizations praise the graduates for their dedication and hard work and offer them the hopeful support they might need as they continue their healthcare journey.

U. S. Judge denies motion to suppress

Last Tuesday, July 28, U. S. District Judge Linda Reade denied Agriprocessors, Inc.'s motion to suppress evidence seized in the immigration raid of May 12, 2008. In her ruling, Reade said the information was obtained legally and could be used during the trial. Agriprocessors had, however, argued that the government had used an administrative search warrant during the raid, which cannot be used for a criminal prosecution. She said the search was not improper as the government had obtained a criminal warrant as well as the administrative warrant.

Leeman to be Dean of Students; Wahls hired as K-12 principal

et in special session July 20 to discuss staffing needs due to the resignation last month of high school principal and activities director Brian Gravel.

In order to fill the vacancy, the following motion was approved:

Matt Leeman, who currently teaches in Cora B. Darling Elementary School and is working toward his administration credentials, was hired as Dean of Students. Leeman will retain his current teaching contract and will received an addendum of $7,500 for 20 extra days and additional supervising duties.
