Two-Vehicle Accident

On Thursday, July 23, at 4:17 p.m., the Fayette County Sheriff's responded to a two vehicle accident at the intersection of Cedar Road and Filmore Road. After an investigation by Sheriff's deputies it was determined that Nicole Marie Coonfare, 24, of Volga, was stopped at the intersection in a 2007 Ford Edge when she pulled out in front of a 2002 Toyota Camry driven by Kathryn Sue Durnan, 60, of Elgin.

Bloxham, 88

Ruth E. Bloxham, of Waukon, passed away Monday, July 20, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. She was 88.

Funeral services were held Friday, July 24, at Forest Mills United Methodist Church in rural Postville with Rev. Richard Iles officiating. Burial was held in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Ewald Walch

Ewald Walch, 82

Ewald Fritz Walch, of Luana, passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wis., following a short illness. He was 82.

Funeral Services were held on Saturday, July 25, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, with Greg Hamm officiating. Burial followed in the Postville Cemetery, Postville. Leonard Funeral Home of Monona was in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be left with: www.leonardfuneralhomes.com.

Sunscreen? check. Extra water, cool clothing, and bug repellent? Check. You are set for the strong summer rays, bugs, and high humidity. Or are you? There may be one important part of your body not being protected against the sun and other factors. Most of us take our sense of sight for granted. We have always been able to see the beautiful colors of a sunrise and know just what familiar face is coming our way. It is hard to imagine a life without sight, but approximately 3.4 million Americans over age 40 are blind or visually impaired.

Area students graduate from Kirkwood

Kirkwood Community College recently celebrated the graduation of 2,160 college credit students. The accomplishments were marked with annual commencement ceremonies held Saturday, May 16, 2009 at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids.

This graduating class marked the 43nd full year of service for the college. The graduates included students from 74 Iowa counties, 12 other states in the U.S. and 13 other nations.

Wahls and Erickson to marry

Mr. and Mrs. Allen Wahls of Postville, Iowa announce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Samantha Fredricka Wahls, to Mr. Kent Wayne Erickson of Albert Lea, Minnesota. An August wedding is planned.

Miss Wahls is a 2006 graduate of Postville High School and is currently a student at South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota, majoring in dairy production/ dairy manufacturing.

Corlett hits hole-in-one

At left: Lowell Corlett of Castalia (second from right) received a gold putter from Birdnow Chevrolet in Monona for hitting a hole-in-one at Tri-City Golf Course in Luana. Corlett hit his hole-in-one on the short par three hole number six on Wednesday, July 8. On hand to present Corlett his golden putter were Birdnow salesman Tom Matt, Birdnow general manager Tom Frascht, and Tri City clubhouse manager Michelle Harbaugh.
