The Postville Police Department has reported the following activity for the month of June 2009:

Warnings: 26 traffic and 7 other; Citations: 13 traffic and 2 parking; Reports: 8 incident and 3 accident

Fines collected in June: Allamakee County $713.03.Paper service $150. Vehicle inspections: 10 at $20 each for $200. Total for the month: $1,063.03

Citations: (13) Speeding, no seat belt for child, driving while suspended, no driver's license and no insurance

Guyer family reunion held at Heritage Farm Park

The 66th Guyer reunion was held Sunday, June 28, 2009 at the Heritage Farm Park, Clermont, Iowa. A potluck was held. The weather was great- not too hot, not too cold. Some of those in attendance toured the school house and listened to Arnold Guyer tell some of its history.

A newcomer to the reunion was Richard (DIck) Guyer. He told about his great-grandfather, Daniel Guyer homesteading in South Dakota. He will bring pictures next year.

•Five Years Ago

•Hazel Stee, who has been a news correspondent for Postville since 1958, celebrated her 90th birthday on July 1 and was honored at an open house on July 11. She has been gathering news for the City of Castalia for the Postville, Decorah, Calmar and Ossian papers for 46 years.

•Rachel Anderson, daughter of Bruce and JoDee Anderson, has been named to the Board of Director of Habitat for Humanity. Currently, she is helping to build a home in Calmar.

White family gathers for reunion

The White reunion was held Sunday, July 12, 2009 in the Postville park. The table prayer, "Be Present at our Table Lord" was sung before the potluck dinner was held.

It was interesting to hear Jim White tell about when he was a boy and also stories about when his dad Harold White was stationed at Pearl Harbor when it was bombed.

Deering and Johanningmeier to marry

Ann Johanningmeier of Waukon and Koal Deering of Postville are happy to announce their engagement and upcoming wedding. They plan to exchange vows August 8 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon. A reception and dance will be held following the ceremony at the Waukon Banquet Center.

Baseball season comes to an end

Vs. Kee High

On Tuesday, July 14, the Pirate baseball team traveled to New Albin for their first round district match-up against the Kee Hawks. After losing 31-1 to the Hawks in the first round last year, Postville was hoping to do much better this year.

Hobbies can keep you physically healhier

Think back to the last time you filled in a questionnaire about yourself. Certainly you didn't hesitate at the name, address, or phone number categories, and hopefully not at how truthful to be about smoking, exercising, or seat belt wearing. But one place you may have paused was in listing your hobbies, or what you do in your "free" time. What "free" time? When you are not working, taking care of family, or cleaning the house, you are grabbing a few hours of sleep before starting it all over again.

West Post Project Club

West Post Project Club met July 15, 2009 at the home of Ellen Wahls. The meeting was opened by seven answering roll call, telling how they celebrated the Fourth of July. Darlene Lange gave thoughts for the day. "May you life be like arithmetic- Friends added, enemies subtracted, joys multiplied and errors divided." She also noted you are an old timer if you remember when a women went on her second honeymoon, it was with her first husband. Our hostess, Ellen also shared a thought for the day, "Even much worse than a storm or a riot, is a bunch of kids who are suddenly quiet.
