WSH Class of 1980 to hold July reunion



Invitations have been sent out for the 25-year reunion of the Waukon Senior High Class of 1980. The event will be Saturday, July 16, 2005, at the Waukon Golf & Country Club beginning at 5 p.m. Any class member that did not receive an invitation should contact either Jane (Waldron) Sivesind at (563) 568-6244 or Scott Garrett at (203) 292-3439.

WIC stops at St. John’s April 25



The Women, Infant, and Children Supplemental Food Program Clinic will be held at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waukon Monday, April 25.

Checks are to be picked up from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The WIC Program provides nutrition education as well as supplemental foods such as milk, juice, cereal, eggs, or infant formula if your family meets the accompanying guidelines.

If you are pregnant, nursing, or have children under age five and wish to apply, call the Allamakee County Family Services Office at (563) 568-4224.

Jason and Amber Hageman of Calmar are excited to announce the birth of their daughter, Autumn Elizabeth. Born Thursday, April 7, 2005, at Veterans Memorial Hospital, she was 6 pounds, 10.5 ounces. Autumn joins two siblings, Brady, age 4, and Dallas, age 3.
Grandparents are Duane and Maggie DeWalle of Waukon and Diane Hageman of Fort Atkinson.

Surprise party will note Nierling’s 85th birthday

Rosella (Mellick) Nierling will celebrate her 85th birthday with a surprise party Sunday, April 24, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Tom Rowles, in rural Oxford near Iowa City. The celebration will begin at 1 p.m. and continue into the evening.

Chmelar, Klauke will exchange vows May 29

Steve and Lynne Chmelar announce the engagement and upcoming marriage of their daughter, Jana, of Ottumwa, to Fredrick Klauke of Decorah, son of Don and Mary Klauke of Dorchester.

Chmelar, a 2003 Luther College graduate, will be finishing her master’s degree at the University of Northern Iowa in post-secondary education: student affairs in May 2005.

Klauke, a 1999 graduate of the University of Denver, is a video producer for MediaCom/On-Media in Decorah and the owner of the video production company Burning Wolf Productions, LLC.

Wis. Considers Legalizing Cat Hunting

MADISON, Wis. - Feline lovers holding pictures of cats, clutching stuffed animals and wearing whiskers faced-off against hundreds of hunters at meetings around Wisconsin to voice their opinion on whether to legalize cat hunting.

Residents in 72 counties were asked whether free-roaming cats — including any domestic cat that isn't under the owner's direct control or any cat without a collar — should be listed as an unprotected species. If listed as so, the cats could be hunted.

Who's hijacking your computer?

It's called modem hijacking. Unsuspecting Web surfers download a file that contains a malicious bit of programming. Later, the program uses the computer's phone connection to place costly international calls.

In some cases, surfers don't have to download anything. The program can sneak aboard the computer as part of a virus. Or that "x" a surfer clicks to banish a pop-up may instead load an automatic dialer onto the machine.
