Upper Explorerland Regional Housing Authority received notification that their grant application will receive funding from the Iowa Department of Economic Development. The funding will provide rental assistance and utility deposit assistance to eligible low income rental assistance households. The $187,000 awarded is to cover a two-year period of time.

Catholic Schools Week 2005 opened with a mass at Luther College’s Center of Faith and Life in Decorah. Main Celebrant was Rev. Msgr. Thomas Toale, Vicar for Education/Superintendent of Schools of the Archdiocese of Dubuque. Participating schools included St. Patrick School, Waukon; Trinity Catholic School, Protivin; Notre Dame Catholic School, Cresco; St. Francis de Sales Catholic School, Ossian; CFS of Calmar and Spillville; and St. Benedict Catholic School, Decorah.

New Century

The New Century Club will meet Wednesday, April 6 at 1:30 p.m. Nancy Brandt will serve as hostess. Patsy Kerndt will present the lesson on “Needle Work and Crafts”. Election of officers will also take place.

P.E.O. Chapter EK

Chapter EK, P.E.O. will meet Monday, April 11 at 6:30 p.m. Mary Ament will serve as hostess and Thea Thies will present the program. Chapter EK will then host its annual Senior Girls Reception at 7:30 p.m. that evening.

American Legion Auxiliary

April 20 - St. John’s Lutheran Church Meatball Supper. Serving from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Franciscan Skemp Healthcare is again offering its second annual Summer Shadowing Program in Nursing for high school students who are currently sophomores, and are beginning to make career plans for their future. The program will run from June 15 through August 17 this year.

Beginning Computer Class, Level II will be offered at the Waukon Senior High School each Wednesday evening from April 6 through April 27. The classes will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. under the instruction of Pam Kruger.

Business Professionals of America (BPA) students at Northeast Iowa Community College’s (NICC) Calmar and Peosta campuses scored high marks at BPA’s state competition held in Cedar Rapids, March 2-4. District-wide a total of 22 NICC business program students qualified to compete in the BPA National Competition being held in Anaheim, CA April 22-26.

Named to Dean’s List at NIACC
Over 530 individuals have been named to the North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) Dean’s List for the 2004 Fall Semester. That includes 349 full-time students and 183 part-time students who together represent 88 communities. Erin Pfiffner of Lansing, a graduate of Kee High School and full-time NIACC students, was among those NIACC students honored.
