Ruth DeLarm

Ruth J. DeLarm, 77, of Atkins, Iowa, died Friday morning, April 1, 2005, in Mercy Medical Center following a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 5 at Grace Brethren Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Gary Austin. The body was cremated following the funeral services.

Ruth was born September 25, 1927, in Waukon, and lived there until moving to Cedar Rapids in 1956. She was married to Raymond E. DeLarm November 11, 1956, in Waukon. Ruth was a homemaker and a member of Grace Brethren Church. She loved her animals and enjoyed collecting bells and dolls.

Elinor “Jeanne” McKee



Elinor “Jeanne” McKee, age 77, of Waukon, died Thursday, March 31, 2005, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services were held Monday, April 4 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Lynn G. Groe officiating. Burial was in the Old West Paint Creek Church Cemetery, rural Waterville. Hanson Funeral Home of Waukon was in charge of arrangements.

Jeanne was born April 15, 1927, in North Dakota to William and Signe (Remmen) Kannenberg. She graduated from high school in Spring Grove.

Kathleen “Kay” Pauley



Kathleen “Kay” Pauley, age 89, of Elgin, Ill., and formerly of Lansing, Iowa, died Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at Heritage Manor in Elgin. Funeral services were held Saturday, April 2, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing with Fr. Daniel Knipper officiating. Burial was in Gethsemane Cemetery in Lansing. Thornburg-Hanson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Alba M. Kudart, 91, of Waukon, died Friday, April 1, 2005, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 6 at 1 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, with Rev. Lynn Groe officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Martin Funeral Home.

Exhibitors needed for eighth annual wellness fair



The date for the eighth annual Spring Into Family Wellness Fair has been set for Wednesday, May 11, from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. This year’s event will be held at Veterans Memorial Hospital.

Last year, over 325 families and individuals attended the event, enjoying family related activities and entertainment while learning a great deal about the health and family services available in Allamakee and northern Clayton counties.

Veterans Memorial Hospital’s annual community wellness program “In Step with VMH” began last week. Over 70 teams will spend the next seven weeks enrolled in this wellness program, exercising and eating right to win points for their team.

Hospital Auxiliary Euchre Marathon will be held April 13

The Auxiliary of Veterans Memorial Hospital will hold its next monthly Euchre Marathon Wednesday, April 13. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The Auxiliary’s Euchre Marathons are held each month in the meeting room of M&M Café. The marathons will begin at noon with lunch, if you chose, and card playing from approximately 1 to 3 p.m. Cost is $3 per person with all proceeds going towards the Auxiliary of Veterans Memorial Hospital. Prizes will be awarded.

Kurth, Quandahl announce plans for April 30 wedding in Waukon

Selina Kurth and Cory Quandahl of Decorah are happy to announce their engagement and upcoming marriage. Parents of the couple are Dale and Virginia Kurth of Waukon, Marsha Kurth of La Crosse, Wis., and Ray and Julie Quandahl of Decorah.

The bride-to-be is a graduate of Northeast Iowa Community College and Luther College. She is a registered nurse with Winneshiek County Public Health.

The groom-elect is also a graduate of Northeast Iowa Community College. He currently works for Casper Plumbing and Heating.
