College Recap: Tami Magner



Tami Magner (Fr.) notched the first home run of her collegiate career during Luther’s spring trip to Ft. Myers, Fla. Magner smashed a 7th inning shot out of the park March 21 as Luther downed Bethel, 5-0. The Norse were 7-2 during the week of action in Florida. March 31, Luther upended Viterbo 6-3 and 3-1. During the Norse’s 6-3 victory, Magner was 2-for-3 at the plate, blasting a triple and double and scoring a run. April 2, she scored a run in an 11-8 loss to Buena Vista and then was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run as Luther downed the Beavers, 3-1.

Applications being accepted for 2005 Drake University boys basketball camps

Applications are being accepted for the 2005 Bulldog Basketball Camp at Drake University. Tom Davis and his staff and players will conduct three camps. Day Camp will be held June 13-16 and is open to boys entering grades K-8 in the fall of 2005. The Individual Camp will be held June 19-22 and is open to boys entering grades 5-12 in the fall. Spring fever: Catch some trout



Although April 1 marks the official start date of the trout stocking season for the Decorah Trout Hatchery, many anglers were out already, catching trout from last fall’s stocking.

Stocking dates are announced only on specified streams from April through September. In October, stocking continues, but is unannounced for all streams.

Harpers Ferry FD Wild Game Feed is April 16



The Harpers Ferry Fire Department will be holding its annual Wild Game Feed Saturday, April 16 at the Harpers Ferry Fire Station. Food will be served beginning at 3 p.m.

There will be various items raffled throughout the evening, including a number of shotguns and rifles. At 8 p.m. there will be an auction featuring many items, including a hand carved wood eagle, the Larry Zach print “Big City Bucks” and the Michael Sieves print “Armistice Day”. All proceeds will go towards purchasing new equipment and everyone is welcome to attend.

UIU boys basketball camp is July 17-21

Upper Iowa University will host its boys basketball camp July 17 to 21.

The Upper Iowa University basketball camps have a long tradition of providing outstanding basketball instruction. The Recreation Center and Dorman Gymnasium give UIU ample space to provide instructional opportunities and individual attention.

Walter H. Boltz, 86, of Waukon, died Sunday, April 3, 2005, at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Marjorie A. Schott, 84, of Waukon, died Saturday, April 2, 2005, at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 5 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Waukon, with Fr. Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon. Ruth C. Bauercamper, 95, of Waukon, died Friday, April 1, 2005, at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 6 at 11 a.m. at Zalmona Presbyterian Church, rural Waukon, with Rev. Amy Perkins officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Ruth Carolyn Regan was born November 5, 1909, in Waukon, Iowa, the daughter of Peter John and Hazel June (Cowan) Regan. She graduated from Waukon High School in 1928.

Pauline Kiesau

Funeral services for Pauline Kiesau were held Saturday, April 2, 2005, at Community Presbyterian Church with Rev. Gary Catterson officiating. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements.

O. Pauline Kiesau was born July 31, 1912, to Earl Parsons and Georgia Helen (Wiederrecht) Smith, at Toolsboro, Iowa. She died Monday, March 28, 2005, in the Good Samaritan Center at Postville, Iowa, at the age of 92.
