Following chemotherapy and radiation treatments that pushed her December 9, 2002 diagnosed disease into remission, O’Hare - the wife of 1988 Waukon Senior High School graduate Tim O’Hare and the daughter-in-law of Mike and Virginia O’Hare of rural Waukon - and Preston, MN friend Robin Honken competed in and completed the 32nd annual Honolulu Marathon December 12 of last year in Hawaii.

The Boy Scout program was founded in 1910 to meet the needs and wants of younger boys eager to be scouts. The Cub Scout program, first known as Cubbing, was founded in 1930 and designed for boys ages 9 to 11.

Today, Waukon’s own Pack 64, which has been in existence for over 30 years, has a roster of 39 registered boys and 12 registered adult volunteers who serve as den leaders, committee members, and Cub Master. The Pack is chartered by the Waukon Pioneer Fire Department and belongs to the Northeast Iowa Council and Dellaykee District.

The Waukon Lions Club will be hosting its annual Variety Show this Saturday, April 2 in the Auditorium of Waukon Senior High School. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. for the event, with the show slated to start at 7:30 p.m.

An eight-week parent training course for parents of elementary school-aged children with disruptive behaviors will begin April 4 at Northeast Iowa Mental Health in Decorah.

This group is designed for parents of children with attention deficit disorder and oppositional defiance. It also includes a four-week group for the children and a special session for siblings.

A $2 million gift to Wartburg College in Waverly from veteran Iowa broadcaster Grant Price will endow the Grant L. Price Chair in Communication Arts. The endowed chair funds the department chair position, said David Ostrander, vice president for institutional advancement at Wartburg.

As a result, Dr. William Withers, chair of the department, has been named Grant L. Price Chair in Communication Arts. Withers will remain associate professor of communication arts and assistant director of the Wartburg Institute for Leadership Education.
