VMH Diabetes Support Group to meet April 21

The Veterans Memorial Hospital Diabetes Support Group will hold its next meeting Thursday, April 21 at 10 a.m. in the Large Conference Room. Beth Fitzpatrick, M.T., Medical Technologist, from Veterans Memorial Hospital Laboratory will present the program. Her topic will be "What are Your Numbers?" She will present the laboratory’s role in testing for diabetic health.

The Auxiliary of Veterans Memorial Hospital will hold its next monthly Euchre Marathon for all individuals of the community interested Wednesday, April 13. Anyone is welcome to attend, even if not an Auxiliary member.

Parkinson Support Group to meet April 21 at VMH

The area Parkinson Support Group will meet Thursday, April 21 at 1 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Hospital in the Lower Level Large Conference Room. This local Parkinson Support Group is affiliated with the Wisconsin Parkinson Association (WPA), which is a regional center for the National Parkinson Foundation.

This local Parkinson Support Group welcomes anyone with Parkinson Disease to attend, including caregivers of a patient with Parkinson Disease, or any interested family or friend.

Sign up now for April 9 Prepared Childbirth Education class at Veterans Memorial Hospital

Veterans Memorial Hospital will hold a Prepared Childbirth Education class Saturday, April 9, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Large Conference Room. Lunch will be provided.

During the class, instructors concentrate on labor and delivery and practicing the relaxation and breathing techniques. Other education issues on pregnancy and exercise, nutrition during pregnancy, medications available during delivery, and care of the new baby are also discussed. In addition, infant CPR is also taught.

Doerrings to celebrate 50th anniversary with card shower

Oliver and Rose Marie Doerring of Monona will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a card shower. They were married April 3, 1955 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville.

The Doerrings have two daughters, Marsha (Kenneth) Conway and Marilyn (Michael) Rood; five grandchildren, Melissa (Derick) Gilbreath, Mindy and Megan Conway, Christopher (Sandra) Rood and Cory Rood; and one great grandson, Charlie Gilbreath.

Martins to celebrate golden anniversary with open house

Virgil and Lavon Martins will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house at the KC Hall in Ossian Saturday, April 2, 2005. The open house will go from 2 to 4 p.m. with a dance to follow from 4 to 7 p.m. The Toe Tappers will provide music. Everyone is welcome to attend. No further invitations are being sent.

Virgil Martins and Lavon Ewing were united in marriage February 13, 1955, at the Presbyterian Church in Postville.

Sophia Madeline Wise (pictured) was born Friday, Feb. 11, 2005, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital in Waukesha, Wis. She weighed 6 pounds, 12 ounces, and was 19.5 inches long. Proud parents are Trish (Kiesau) and Kirk Wise. Sophia joins a brother, Donovan, age 2. Grandparents are Curtis and Carolyn Kiesau of Wausau, Wis., and Stan and Lorrie Wise of Spring Park, Minn. Great-grandparents are the late Luella Kiesau of Waukon, Merlin and Fern Herzog of Detroit Lakes, Minn., and Dorothy and the late Richard Wise of Spring Park.

April 2 open house to note Hansmeier’s 70th birthday

An open house celebration will be held Saturday, April 2, 2005, at the Vet’s Club in Waukon in honor of Bob Hansmeier’s 70th birthday. The party will take place in the restaurant’s lower level from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Friends and relatives are invited to attend the event. It is requested that no gifts be given.

Postponed Democrats meeting now set for April 2

Allamakee County Democrats Chair Karen Pratte reports that the weather-postponed Democratic Central Committee meeting will now be held this Saturday, April 2 at 11 a.m. at Dave’s Gus & Tony’s in Waukon.

The Book Club gathering will follow, with presentations by Galen Kuhens and Jim Etchison.

WSH Class of 1980 to hold July reunion

Invitations have been sent out for the 25-year reunion of the Waukon Senior High Class of 1980.
