Korean War Veterans Armistice Day Celebration will take place Saturday

The Allamakee County Korean War Veterans Armistice Day Celebration will take place this Saturday, July 28 at the Waukon City Park, hosted by the Allamakee County Veterans Honoring Committee. The event will take place at 1 p.m. at the shelter house near the ball diamond and will honor both living and deceased veterans from Allamakee County who served during the Korean War era. Those planning to attend the event are asked to bring flags to fly during the ceremony and to also bring their own chairs for seating.

Annual New Albin Days celebration scheduled to take place July 20-22

New Albin Days is scheduled to be in full swing this Friday through Sunday, July 20-22. The annual celebration will kick off with some softball and baseball games for area youngsters Wednesday, July 18 and throughout the day Thursday, July 19 before a full slate of activities begins Friday and carries on through Sunday.

Join the fun at the Allamakee County Fair this week

This week, July 18-22, the 159th Allamakee County Fair will be held for all to enjoy at the Allamakee County Fairgrounds in Waukon. A wide variety of entertainment  - including some new and nationally recognized talent - is in place to headline this year’s fair at the grandstand, along with a great deal of other activities for everyone to enjoy each and every day throughout the five-day event.

CHANGE OF VENUE! Kee vs. Turkey Valley District Baseball Final to be played in Waukon

The championship round of the Class 1A District 6 Baseball Tournament scheduled for this Saturday, July 14 and featuring a match-up between Kee and Turkey Valley has been changed from its original site and will now be played at Waukon High School's baseball field. The game had originally been scheduled to be played at Oelwein, but the closer proximity of Waukon's field to the two teams playing in the finals initiated a move to Waukon.

Howe named Executive Director for Upper Explorerland Regional Planning Commission

Upper Explorerland Regional Planning Commission (UERPC) announces the promotion of Rachelle Howe to Executive Director, effective August 1.
Howe graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism and was the Executive Director of Allamakee County Economic Development for 14 years before accepting a position at UERPC as Team Leader in Economic Development. She became a Department Head after being with UERPC for two years. Howe is married with two children, Will and Grace, and is a native of Waukon.

Eight young ladies vying for crown of 2012 Allamakee County Fair Queen

Eight Allamakee County young ladies are vying for the title of 2012 Allamakee County Fair Queen. That crown and all the honors and responsibilities that accompany it will be bestowed upon one of those candidates Tuesday, July 17 during the Allamakee County Fair Queen Pageant and Youth Showcase being held at the Allamakee County Fairgrounds Pavilion.
