Obituaries are published in The Standard for a $45 fee and can be brought to the office at 15 First Street NW in Waukon, mailed to PO Box 286, Waukon IA 52172, or e-mailed to news@waukonstandard.com. Photos may be included for an additional charge of $15 (additonal photos are also $15). Obituaries of excessive length (longer than our single-column length of 15.5") will also incur an additional charge of $11/column inch for the content measuring longer than our 15.5-inch column length. Ron Valley

A Celebration of Life for Ron Valley, 70, of Montgomery, IL will be held Saturday, May 30 at the Ethel Robinson Meehan Community Center in Harpers Ferry from 1-4 p.m. Ron passed away Sunday, February 1, 2015 at his home after a battle with cancer. He was born August 7, 1944 in Harpers Ferry.

Sharon Kay (Wiemerslage) Dee, age 62, of Waterville died Tuesday, April 28, 2015. Graveside services were held Friday, May 8 at the Waterville Cemetery, Waterville.

James Hager

James N. Hager, 69, of Waukon died Monday, May 11, 2015 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services were held Friday, May 15 at Zalmona Presbyterian Church in rural Waukon, with Pastor Tom Buresh officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery.
James Nathan Hager was born September 21, 1945 in Decorah, the son of Nathan Paul and Alta Viola Ingeborg (Gilbertson) Hager. He was baptized and confirmed at Zalmona Presbyterian Church in rural Waukon. Jim attended country school through eighth grade at Ludlow #2 in Ludlow Township, rural Waukon.
In 1963, Jim graduated from Waukon High School and attended airline traffic management school in Minneapolis, MN. He was too young to get a job with the airlines so Jim returned home to farm with his dad. In 1968, Jim worked for Cod Brandt at Brandt’s DX. In 1970, he began farming full time until 2004, when he was required to quit due to health reasons.

Myra Wroble

Myra J. Wroble, 89, of rural Harpers Ferry died Monday, May 4, 2015 at Great River Care Center in McGregor. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon is assisting the family with arrangements.
Myra Jeanette Wroble was born May 31, 1925 in Auburn, NE, the daughter of Oscar Andrew and Amy Roberta (Flau) Rogers. She graduated from Auburn High School in Auburn, NE in 1943 and attended Doane College in Crete, NE for two years.
February 13, 1946 she married Robert David Wroble in Kansas. Myra worked for the FBI in Washington, DC, Montgomery Wards and several hospitals doing office work. She and Robert managed a mobile home park in Marion. Myra and Robert moved to the Harpers Ferry area in 1995. She enjoyed playing the organ, gardening and spending time in the outdoors.

Daniel Hart

Daniel P. Hart, 45, of Sioux City, formerly of Waukon, died Friday, April 24, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City. Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 9 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, with Fr. Jim Dubert and Deacon Mike Ward officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon. Visitation will be held Saturday, May 9 at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
Daniel Patrick Hart was born September 10, 1969 in Waukon, the son of William and Elizabeth (Ryan) Hart. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon and in 1988 he graduated from Waukon High School. Dan then graduated from Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls. After graduation Dan worked for a number of companies, including MCI, Nordstrom and Younkers. Most recently, he worked as a security manager for McLeod Telecommunications in Cedar Rapids. For the past two years, Dan was living in Sioux City.

Robert Carlton

Robert D. Carlton, age 68, of Waukon passed away Monday, April 27, 2015 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN. Memorial services were held Saturday, May 2 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Waukon, with Pastor Kim Gates officiating.
Robert was born in Sac City January 4, 1947 to parents Darwin and Loraine Carlton. He was active in sports, band and Boy Scouts. He went on to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. Robert graduated from Sac City High School and then received training to become an official Court Reporter. He worked in the Juvenile, Superior and District courts in Iowa, Nebraska and Washington State.
He married Karen Vandagriff September 1, 1973 in Rockwell City. They lived in Omaha, NE, Bellevue, WA and Guttenberg before settling in Waukon.

Agnes Raymond

Agnes Raymond, 90, of Lansing died Thursday, April 16, 2015 at Thornton Manor in Lansing. Mass of the Resurrection will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 2 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing. Visitation will be one hour before service at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing. Inurnment will be at Gethsemane Cemetery, Lansing following the Mass of the Resurrection.
Agnes was born December 28, 1924 in Norwalk, WI to Peter and Hilda (Heilman) Schreier. She graduated high school in Norwalk, WI. Agnes was united in marriage with Robert C. Raymond, Sr. August 31, 1946 in Norwalk, WI. To this union three children were born.
Agnes worked as a bookkeeper for A&P Food Stores. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Choir. She enjoyed gardening flowers, fishing, especially trips to Canada, and singing, dancing, old musicals and John Wayne.

Lloyd Miller

Lloyd Henry “Buddy” Miller, 82, of Waukon died Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at Thornton Manor in Lansing. Funeral Services were held Monday, April 20 at the United Methodist Church, Lansing, with Rev. Kevin Smith as the Officiant. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery, Lansing with full military honors.
Lloyd was born June 25, 1932 to Lloyd Charles and Myrtle Manilla (Bechtel) Miller in La Crosse, WI. Buddy was baptized and attended elementary school at Blessed Sacrament Church and attended Aquinas High School in La Crosse, WI.
Lloyd served his country honorably in the U.S. Army for ten years. He dearly loved his experiences in the military, which included time spent in South Korea and Europe. Buddy was a member of the VFW in Lansing.

Stanley Phillips

Stanley Lewis Phillips, 72, of Monona died Saturday, April 11, 2015 at his home in Monona. There will be a private family service at a later date.
Stanley was born April 2, 1943 in Londonderry, Ireland to Lewis and Gladys (Keys) Phillips. His family moved to Jesup when Stanley was two years old. He enlisted in the Army in 1961 and served until 1963. Stanley was united in marriage with Terry Paulsen in 1963 and to this union two daughters were born, Riquie and Kris. They later divorced.
Stanley was a machinist at John Deere in Waterloo for 30 years, retiring in 1996. In 2003 he moved to McGregor and then moved to Monona a year later. Stanley also owned a bar in Fairbank for five years, the Hole in the Wall.
Stanley enjoyed fishing on the Mississippi River, hunting and spending time outdoors. He also could be found riding his Harley and taking trips to Elgin four-wheeling.

Mary Nagel

Mary J. Nagel, 75, of Waukon died Sunday, April 19, 2015 at her home. Private family services will be held later.
Mary Jane Nagel was born April 10, 1940 in Waukon, the daughter of William and Anna (Timmerman) Ferguson. She attended country schools in the Waukon area. April 17, 1955, Mary married Roland Verni Nagel at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Besides being a busy mother raising six children, Mary farmed with Roland in the Ludlow Township area and drove school bus.
