USDA Provides One-Time Extension of Deadline to Update Base Acres or Yield History for ARC/PLC
The final day to update yield history or reallocate base acres has been extended one additional month, from February 27 until March 31.  The final day for farm owners and producers to choose ARC or PLC coverage also remains March 31.  
If no changes are made to yield history or base acres by March 31, 2015, the farm’s current yield and base will be used. A program choice of ARC or PLC coverage also must be made by March 31 or there will be no 2014 payments for the farm and the farm will default to PLC coverage through the 2018 crop year.

The 2014-2015 Kee boys basketball team faced its share of adversity in playing to a 3-20 overall season record this winter, but ultimately left its own mark in recording this season’s final win. After playing to a 2-19 regular season, a mark that included a 1-14 record in Upper Iowa Conference play, the Hawks banded together at the most ideal moment of the season to record the first postseason tournament win for the program since the 2011 season.

Top senior wrestlers from northeast Iowa and southeast Minnesota who have completed outstanding high school careers will face off in the 14th annual all-star “Border Battle” dual meet at 7 p.m. this Friday, March 6 at Crestwood High School in Cresco. Among this year’s Border Battle wrestlers competing for the Iowa team will be the Waukon High School senior pair of 145-pounder Adam Benzing and 152-pounder Gunnar Grangaard.
“Things are still up in the air as far as who will be wrestling for Minnesota,” stated Dennis Meirick, president of the hosting Iowa Wrestling Hall of Fame. “Minnesota just finished their state tournament this weekend and will be putting their team together in the next few days.”

The Kee girls basketball team had its 2014-2015 season brought to a halt, but not before battling as deep into the postseason as a team can go without reaching every team’s ultimate destination, and providing an abundance of excitement along the way. The Lady Hawks played a total of three Class 1A regional tournament games within a six-day period, winning a pair of them by just two points each before letting the one that mattered most edge away in the closing moments to just a five-point loss.

The Waukon boys basketball team had its 2014-2015 season brought to completion with a split of what turned out to be its final two games of the season played within this past week. The Indians first ended their regular season with a 57-47 home win over Charles City Tuesday, February 17 to finish in a fourth-place tie with Crestwood in the final Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) team standings with a 5-7 NEIC record. That same Crestwood team, however, would stand for nothing even close to a tie when they faced off against the Indians in the opening round of Class 3A district tournament play Monday, February 23 at Decorah, ending the Indians’ season with a 58-35 defeat. The loss completes the Indians’ season with an overall record of 12-10. Crestwood advances on to the district championship game this Thursday, February 26 to play Decorah in the Waukon High School gym beginning at 7 p.m., with that winner advancing on to the substate championship game Monday, March 2 at the U.S.

The 2014-2015 season was brought to a halt for the Kee boys basketball team Thursday, February 19 at North Linn in the quarterfinal round of Class 1A District Tournament play. The host Lynx had played to a 16-5 regular season record with a line-up that does not include a senior on their roster, but that absence of senior leadership was not evident as North Linn handed the Hawks a 59-34 season-ending defeat. The Hawks wrapped up their 2014-2015 season with an overall record of 3-20. The win for North Linn advanced them on to a Tuesday, February 24 semifinal match-up at Elkader against Postville, with that winner advancing on to the District 6 championship game to be played at Starmont February 26.

Waukon wrestling 145-pound senior Adam Benzing not only wrapped up his career late last week at every wrestler’s ultimate destination - the State Tournament at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, but also where every State Tournament qualifier would like to end up - on the podium as one of the top eight finishers in their respective weight class. Benzing put together a successful Friday, February 20 in the middle of the three-day season grand finale for two of his three wins in six total matches on his way to a sixth-place State Tournament finish in the 16-wrestler Class 2A 145-pound bracket. Benzing completed the final season of his Waukon High School wrestling career with a 32-12 overall record.

The Kee boys basketball team brought its regular season to a close in the midst of a six-game losing streak and a 2-19 overall record to start this past week, but the Hawks reversed that fortune in the first game of their postseason schedule to accomplish something that hasn’t been done by a Kee boys basketball team since 2011. The Hawks’ regular season came to an end with back-to-back losses at home of 77-59 to North Fayette Valley Monday, February 9 and 69-42 to Seneca, WI Tuesday, February 10, but the Kee boys put their regular season difficulties behind them to open Class 1A District Tournament play with a 53-49 triumph over East Buchanan Monday, February 16 in a game played at Edgewood-Colesburg High School.

The Kee girls basketball team both ended its regular season and began its postseason in victorious fashion, the Hawks starting up another winning streak when it matters most. Kee first shook off a pesky North Fayette Valley squad, 38-30, in West Union Monday, February 9 to end its regular season in a game rescheduled from Tuesday, February 3 due to winter weather. The Lady Hawks then began Class 1A Region 4 tournament play by outlasting Central Elkader at home for a third straight time this season, 48-42, to advance on to the second round of regional play.

The Waukon boys basketball team played its final non-conference game of the regular season when the Indians traveled to Calmar to take on South Winneshiek Monday, February 9. The Indians and host Warriors played to some very equal statistical numbers in the ballgame, equal nearly everywhere but where it mattered most, the 70-56 Indian final margin on the scoreboard.
Currently holding an 11-9 overall record, 4-7 in the Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC), the Indians were scheduled to wrap up their regular season with a Tuesday, February 17 home game with Charles City in a battle for fifth place in the final league standings between two teams with identical NEIC records this season. The Tribe will then open postseason tournament play Monday, February 23 at Decorah against Crestwood, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
