Family of former B&B Clothing Store owner to visit Waukon August 9

Members of the family of Ben Antonoff, one-time owner of the former B&B clothing store (now Teslow's Clothing) on Main Street in Waukon, will be making a visit to Waukon Monday, August 9 to return to the site of some of their family history. The family plans to have breakfast at the S&D Cafe in Waukon between 8 and 10 a.m. and invites anyone wishing to visit and share stories with them to stop by the S&D Cafe Monday morning.

Authors of book about Bill Waldron's military experience to hold book signing/reading at Robey Memorial Library

Robey Memorial Library in Waukon announces a book signing/reading by Waukon native Jan (Waldron) Votroubek and her husband, Ed Votroubek, Thursday, August 5 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Their book, “Duty, Honor, and a Loaf of Bread: Portrait of an American Family in World War II, 1944-1946” shares the military experience of Jan's father, long-time Waukon baker, Bill Waldron.

Public invited to July 29 open house at Allamakee County Museum

The Allamakee Historical Society invites county residents and visitors to an open house at the Allamakee County Courthouse Museum in Waukon Thursday, July 29. From 4- 8 p.m. that day, members of the Historical Society will be present in each room of the museum to share information and answer questions about museum displays. Light refreshments will be served following the open house tours.

The fifth annual Empty Bowls project, hosted March 7 of this year by Luther College in Decorah and the tri-state community, raised approximately $21,000 for local food pantries and world hunger assistance.

Expanded Corn Days celebration offers more family activities

This year’s Sweet Corn Days celebration in Waukon will offer more activities for families. In addition to the Heritage Parade being held Monday, August 2 at 7 p.m., the week-long festival will also feature “Park It” at the Waukon City Park, Wednesday, August 4 from 6 to 11 p.m. Another new attraction during the celebration will be inflatable rides in the Waukon State Bank parking lot Thursday, August 5 from 4 to 8 p.m.

Accident claims Waukon man

Saturday, July 17 at 8:10 a.m., the Clayton County Sheriff’s office received a call of a one-vehicle accident on County Road B60 in Farmersburg. Troy Gallagher, 39, of Waukon was driving a 1992 Chevrolet Blazer westbound on B60 when he lost control, leaving the roadway and striking a tree on the south side of the road.

Area ladies and men "Golf for a Cure"

The Fifth Annual “Golf for a Cure” event brought 82 ladies and three men to the Waukon Golf and Country Club Monday, June 28, as 64 golfers and 21 card players did their part to help raise money in the search for a cure for cancer.
The event was made possible by the committee of Barb Hanson, Linda Cox, Dacia Johnson, Dawn Clark, Julie Rotach, Connie Gallagher, and Nancy Einck. Arlene Martin provided the fresh flower arrangements. The featured guest speaker for this year’s event was Jenny Stegen, PA with the Gundersen Lutheran Clinic in Waukon.
