Real crowd pleasers...

Athlete of the Week

In his second season with the varsity Tribe, this junior point guard is evolving into a leader on the court. Most recently, he helped Waukon launch a four-game win streak as the Indians defeated Decorah, DeSoto, Turkey Valley, and New Hampton during a four-day stretch. Ben made contributions in each victory.
During the the Turkey Valley win, the junior landed a season-high 23 points to pace the Indians. Through the week, he recorded 52 points, 22 rebounds, ten assists, and seven steals. His fourth quarter free throws were crucial in scoring wins over Decorah and Turkey Valley.

Indians win four in a row - Four victories in five days for Waukon boys basketball squad

Tribe cruises in pair of home wins

A pair of home contests graced the schedule of the Waukon girls basketball squad this past week. The Tribe made the most of the two games, posting sizeable wins over MFL-MarMac and New Hampton. Waukon's record is 16-0, which includes a 9-0 record in Northeast Iowa Conference action. vs. MFL-MarMac... One night after posting an emotional win over conference rival Decorah, the Indians hit their home court for a battle with MFL-MarMac. The Jan. 25 battle had its ups and downs, but the Tribe came out ahead, 78-42.

College Recap

Seth Tweedy (Jr.) recorded strong finishes Jan. 28-29 as Iowa fell to Missouri, 213.5-149.5 and Penn State 227-136. Tweedy was on the 2nd place 400 medley relay (3:32.07), took 3rd in the 200 free relay (1:27.52) and 800 free relay (7:11.69), was on the 4th place 400 free relay (3:12.82), and scored an individual 9th place finish in the 100 free in 48.62.

Wall of Fame induction set for Feb. 18

During the Friday, Feb. 18, boys basketball contest with Charles City, more Waukon Senior High athletes will be added to the Wall of Fame. This ceremony will highlight student athletes who have been named to an all-state or academic all-state squad or finished high in state competition in 2004. A cake and ice cream reception will follow the contest in the cafeteria.

Sophomore boys down Decorah, DeSoto, New Hampton, fall in overtime to Turkey Valley

Waukon's sophomore boys basketball squad recently finished a busy week, competing in four contests in five days. The Indians won three of the four games, taking wins over Decorah, De Soto, and New Hampton, but also falling in overtime to Turkey Valley.
The sophomore squad has a 10-3 mark for the season.

vs. Decorah...
Monday, Jan. 24, the Indians hosted Decorah and came away with a 55-39 victory.
Waukon outscored the visiting Vikings 36-24 in the second half to break open a four-point halftime lead.

Sons of Norway, Vesterheim sponsor children's ski event

Sons of Norway Valdres Lodge #503 in Decorah and Sons of Norway Valheim Lodge #364 in Spring Grove, Minn., along with Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum, will host the sixth annual Barneløpet, Saturday, Feb. 5, at 10 a.m. Barneløpet is a non-competitive ski event for children ages 3-13. It is open to girls and boys of all skill levels and the entire family can be involved.

Grotegut, Decorah swimmers finish second at pair of meets

Waukon sophomore Bryce Grotegut had a successful-filled week competing for the Decorah-North Winn swim team.
Thursday, Jan. 27, the Vikings traveled to Waterloo East for a four-team meet. Linn-Mar won the event with 477 points. Decorah was second with 301, Cedar Rapids Xavier was third with 298, and East recorded 154 points.
Individually, Grotegut was fourth in the 100-yard freestyle in 56.48 and fifth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:18.64.
