Erbe and Shekleton repeat vows

Denise Ann Erbe and Edward John Shekleton, Jr. were united in marriage on Saturday, October 23, 2004 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Hampton, IA. Monsignor Carl Schmitt performed the 4 p.m. ceremony. Parents of the couple are Susan Looney, Dennis Erbe and Edward and Sandra Shekleton. The bride was escorted by her cousin Tony Gericke.

•Five Years ago

•Several area residents were spotted mowing their lawns over the weekend as warm weather has caused the grass to green and grow. During the week of March 27-April 2 the high temperatures ranged from 68-72 degrees.

•Mark Mueller was named most valuable and most dedicated Pirate wrestler at the annual banquet held recently. Chad Matherly was chosen as most improved wrestler.

•Tim and Melanie Bauch were named Cub Scouters of the Year for the Dellaykee District.

Grand Meadow 4-H Club meets

Grand Meadow 4-H club met on March 6 at the Citizens Center at 7:30. There were eight people present. The meeting was called to order by Kaylee Zuercher. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Christa Miner, and roll call was, “What is your favorite color and why?” The Secretary’s report was given by Christa Miner and Treasurer’s report was given by Cassie Miner.

The old business discussed was: Reminder, 4-H Omelet Brunch on March 13, tickets are $5. The 4-H lock-in at Prairie du Chien on March 18.

From the Director's Desk: Reeg discusses The Week of the Young Child

In my director’s report this month I would like to talk about the Week of the Young Child which is coming up the week of April 3-9. The Week of the Young Child is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. (NAEYC) is the largest early childhood education association, with other 100,000 members. I belong to this group, which has a network of 450 local, state and regional affiliates.

Huinker and Pattee to marry

Jeff and Judy Huinker of Postville announce the engagement of their daughter, Brandi Lynn to Nolan Pattee of Avoca, Iowa. He is the son of Charlie and Penny Pattee and Cheri and Harlon Harris. A June 18, 2005 is being planned in Postville at St. Bridget Catholic Church. Brandi is a graphic design major at Iowa State University graduating in May 2005. Nolan, an Iowa State University graduate, is a regional sales representative with Banks Life and Casualty.

Kindergarten registration being held in Postville

Registration for kindergarten at the Postville Community School is being held during the month of March. Parents who have not received a letter with registration forms are asked to call the elementary office at 864-7651 to receive the forms. Or, parents may stop by the school during the month of March to complete registration forms. Kindergarten registration requires a copy of a birth certificate.

Jamey Ash Memorial Bowling Tournament

A bowling tournament will be held Saturday, April 16 at Hiway Lanes in memory of Jamey Ash. All proceeds from the tournament will be donated toward the renovation of the high school gym floor.

Jamey, who graduated from Postville High School and had been employed by the district for several years prior to his sudden death in January,was an avid sports fan and Pirate supporter. The committee anticipates hanging a plaque in Jamey’s honor in the gym once the floor is completed

St. Olaf College NORSEMAN BAND to perform at: Fine Arts Civic Center, Postville on April 2

The Norseman Band of St. Olaf College, conducted by Prof. Paul Niemisto will be presenting a symphonic band concert at the Fine Arts Civic Center in Postville on Saturday April 2, beginning at 7:30 P.M.
