Glen Perin, 83, of Webster City, Iowa, died Wednesday, March 9, 2005, at his home. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 12, at Asbury United Methodist Church. Burial was in the city cemetery.

Glen was born February 5, 1922, in Baxter, Iowa.

On October 15, 1949, he married Marilyn Hansmeier at Waukon. The couple resided in Cedar Falls. He was a mechanic at Erickson Motors. In 1962 they moved to Webster City where he worked for Jenson Auto until 1978 when he retired because of health problems.

Kaleb Donald Hitchins, infant son of James and Karen (Van Minsel) Hitchins, arrived stillborn at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa, Sunday, March 6, 2005.
Kaleb’s life will be sadly missed by his parents; five brothers, Corey, Derek, Chad, and Tyler St. Mary and Kyle Hitchins; one sister, Abby Hitchins; his paternal grandparents, Don and Dorothy Hitchins of New Albin; his maternal grandparents, Leo and Elaine Van Minsel of Spring Grove; and many aunts, uncles, and other family members.

Welsh-
Cassie S. Welsh, 19, Lansing, was the victim of a hit-and-run incident Feb. 26. At approximately 11:30 a.m. that morning, Welsh was traveling south on Highway 51 when a northbound vehicle crossed the centerline while attempting to turn on Frankville Road. The vehicles made contact, causing damage. The second vehicle left the scene immediately.
Welsh had damage estimated at $600 to her Pontiac Grand Prix.

Heather A. Fee, 16, Waukon, was charged following a Feb. 26 traffic incident three miles northeast of Waukon.

Failure to get proper building permits can lead to fines.

Most every town and county in the tri-state area will have permitting and setback requirements. It’s your job to make sure all permits are obtained prior to the start of any type of construction project.

Hagen & Kallevang, P.C., Certified Public Accountants of Decorah, Iowa, today released an audit report on the City of Waukon, Iowa.

The City has implemented new reporting standards for the year ended June 30, 2004, with significant changes in content and structure of the financial statements. The new financial statements now include a Statement of Activities and Net Assets which provides information about the activities of the City as a whole. Also included is Management’s Discussion and Analysis of the City’s financial statements.

Veterans Memorial Hospital will hold the next quarterly Prepared Childbirth Education class Saturday, April 9, beginning at 9 a.m. in the Large Conference Room. The class will end at 4:30 p.m. and lunch will be provided. This new one-day format replaces the hospital’s previous four-week evening program to better fit the expectant parent’s schedules.

The Veterans Memorial Hospital Diabetes Support Group will hold its next meeting Thursday, March 17, at 10 a.m. in the Large Conference Room. Lynn O’Hara, RN, from VMH Cardiac Rehabilitation will present the program “Diabetes and Heart Disease.” She will discuss the link between diabetes and heart disease and ways to reduce risk factors that could lead to heart disease and stroke. This diabetes class is open to everyone who has diabetes or has a friend or loved one with diabetes. The Auxiliary of Veterans Memorial Hospital will hold its next monthly Euchre Marathon for all individuals of the community Wednesday, March 16. Anyone is welcome to attend, even if you are not an Auxiliary member.

The Auxiliary’s Euchre Marathons are held each month in the meeting room of the M&M Café on Rossville Road. The marathons begin at noon with lunch, if you chose. Card playing will start at 1 p.m. and go until approximately 3 p.m. Cost is $3 per person with all proceeds going towards the Auxiliary. Prizes will be awarded.

Twins were born at Veterans Memorial Hospital Tuesday, March 1, 2005, to parents Miriam and Paul Skrade of Decorah. Their son, Daniel Blom Skrade, weighed 6 pounds, 5 ounces and was 21 3⁄4 inches long. Their daughter, Annalise Blom Skrade, weighed 7 pounds, 5 ounces and was 21 1⁄2 inches long. Dr. David Schwartz of the Franciscan Skemp Waukon Clinic was the delivering physician. Proud father Paul Skrade stated, “The hospital was great. Ron and Kim Winters of Waterville wish to announce the engagement and upcoming marriage of their son Chad to Sara Cose, daughter of Scott and Vicki Cose of Waterloo.

The bride-to-be is a second year physician assistant student at Des Moines University. She’s currently doing rotations.

The groom-to-be is a physical education/health teacher and coach at Kee High School in Lansing.
