Suzanne and Mike Monroe of Postville, Iowa, announce the engagement of their daughter, Jennifer Audrey, to Chad Glen Dettbarn, son of Julie and Arne Dettbarn of Hazleton, Iowa. They will be united in marriage at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Hazleton, on April 30, 2005. A reception will be held at Miller-Donnelly Auction Center, Independence.

Megan Kay Mullarkey is engaged to Jeffrey John Andersen. She is the daughter of Joseph and Mary Kay Mullarkey and the granddaughter of Vince and Dorothy Mullarkey. Jeffrey is the son of Guy and Marsha Andersen III.

Both attend the University of Iowa where Megan is working on her masters degree in library and information science and Jeffrey is finishing his second year of law school.

A spring wedding is being planned.

Erin Gallagher, daughter of Joseph and Inez Gallagher of Dorchester, is recovering from a kidney transplant. She received the organ Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.

This is Gallagher’s second kidney transplant. She has also received a pancreas transplant.

Her brother Maury donated the kidney and is also recovering from the procedure.

Camp Tahigwa is my favorite place in the world! While growing up in Waukon, I was very active in Girl Scouts and attended Tahigwa as a camper (as soon as I was old enough) and then made the transition to Camp Counselor and worked there all through high school.

I am writing in regard to the Iowa non-resident deer license situation. I am aware that the legislature is getting pressure from the Iowa Bowhunters Association and a handful of others to leave the tag situation as-is.

I am a landowner in Iowa. Although I don’t live there now, I feel I have the same right to hunt my land as my neighbors. The current situation is an embarrassment to all hunters. At present, Iowa residents get about 40 deer tags for every one tag that is issued to a non-resident. This is a tremendous skew.

In the past several weeks our son has given up his Sunday afternoons to help referee basketball games for 5th and 6th grade area youth. During the weekend of February 19 and 20 he and other members of the Postville girls and boys basketball teams gave up their weekend to assist at a tournament sponsored by the Postville Booster Club.
