The event offered a free meal consisting of roast pork, cooked by Tony Diersen, and various potluck dishes. Mary Peters and Laurie Pfiffner did an excellent job of managing the kitchen area for this large crowd.

DECORAH, Iowa — Every year, Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum brings instructors from all over the United States and Norway to teach folk-art classes. "Over 300 students come to our folk-art classes," said Angie Reynolds, Vesterheim’s education assistant. "To keep connected to the roots of Norwegian folk arts, we invite the best possible instructors, and we delight in helping our students find their heritage and develop their talent," she continued.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources will be holding a deer depredation public meeting on Wednesday, March 9, 2005 1:00 p.m. in Waukon at the Allamakee County Farm Bureau Building meeting room.

The address of the Farm Bureau Building is Fourteen 1st Ave NE, the block east of the Allamakee County courthouse, across from the fire station. Or a person can go 1 block northeast of the Main Street intersection with Highway 9 and find the Farm Bureau Building location.

Thanks to Jeremy Strub, Chief Bollman, and Deputy Mellick for a very informative meeting on February 22 at the Main Feature. These three gentlemen talked to at least 30 people that day about methamphetamine use and production in northeast Iowa and Allamakee County.

The part of their presentation that gives me chills is listening to them talk about how dangerous people can become when they are high on meth. People become extremely paranoid and will often shoot at cars or people. One meth user even made pipe bombs.

An agreement to launch a new loan program for livestock producers was signed recently. The Livestock Water Quality Facilities Program is a joint effort of the Iowa Agricultural Development Authority, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, and the Iowa Finance Authority.

Tuesday, Feb. 22, members of the Waukon FFA Chapter participated in Sub-District FFA competition held at Clayton Ridge High School in Guttenberg. To advance to district competition at Monticello High School March 12 contestants needed to finish in the top two in their respective events. The Waukon FFA was very successful in this year's competition, advancing four of the five events to the district competition while all five events earned a gold rating. Members of the Conduct of Meetings team earned a gold rating and advance to district competition.

At one time, farmers relied on experience, almanacs, and general common knowledge to best assess the management and planning of their crops. However, as technological advances continue, farmers now have a host of tools at their disposal to help them make informed decisions, reduce waste and yield a better product ... if they're willing to make the investment, timewise and financially.

The Waukon Lions Club will be hosting its annual Variety Show Saturday, April 2 in the Auditorium of Waukon Senior High School. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. for the event, with the show slated to start at 7:30 p.m.
