BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENTS

Scott and Marsha (Busta) Jenkins of Belton, MO, became parents of their first child, a daughter, born Tuesday, May 23 at Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, KS. Tatum Jodene weighed eight pounds, three ounces and measured 20 inches long at her birth. Her grandparents are Norbert and Joanne Busta of Little Turkey, and Bob and Sherry Jenkins of Waukon. She is the great-granddaughter of Verna Jenkins of Waukon and the late Herb Jenkins, the late James and Esther Styles of Trion, GA, Hugo and Mildred Hackman of Fort Atkinson, and the late William and Viola Busta of Little Turkey.

SISTER MARY BOSCO RYDER TO CELEBRATE 50TH JUBILEE

Sister Mary Bosco Ryder, O.S.F., will be celebrating her 50th Jubilee July 2 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Waukon, at 1 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend the reception which will be held in the church hall following mass.
Sister Mary Bosco Ryder was born Sept. 10, 1930 in Waterville to William and Catherine (Ryan) Ryder. She had one brother Don (deceased) and a sister Betty. The family lived on a farm near Waterville where she attended school and graduated in 1949.

ENGAGEMENTS

Announcement is being made of the engagement and upcoming marriage of Rhonda Hron and Maynard Thompson, both of Cresco. She is the daughter of Ronald and Arlene Hron of Cresco, and he is the son of Emma Thompson of Dorchester and the late Frederick Thompson. Rhonda is a 1994 graduate of Crestwood High School in Cresco, and is currently employed by Howard-Winneshiek Schools in Cresco. Maynard graduated from Waukon High School in 1995 and is employed by Donaldson's in Cresco. They will exchange vows June 24 at St. Joseph Worship Center in Cresco.

WEDDINGS

Christine Larson of Geneseo, IL, and Sean Quillin of Long Grove exchanged marriage vows April 1 at First English Lutheran Church in Platteville, WI, which was decorated with spring flowers on the altar. Pastor JoAnn Post conducted the 11:30 a.m. ceremony. Jackie Larson was acolyte.
Kim Quillin of DeKalb, IL, the groom's daughter, sang "Household of Faith." The bride's son Eric Larson of Geneseo gave his mother in marriage. She was attired in a sky blue floor length dress, and she carried a bouquet of spring flowers.

CONWAYS NAMED DISTINGUISHED DAIRY FAMILY

Named Allamakee County Distinguished Dairy Family was Leo, Kathy, Greg and Jenny Conway of Lansing.
Leo has been involved in farming since childhood and remains on the home place today with his family. His son, Greg, and his wife, Jenny, live nearby and are a big part of the entire dairy operation.
They farm 580 acres and milk 148 head of Holsteins. Their current herd average is 22,904 pounds of milk, 936 pounds of fat and 749 pounds of protein.

The Allamakee County Dairy Promotion Board presented 12 major awards at the annual Dairy Banquet June 1 at the Waukon Senior High School gymnasium.

Leroy Schmidt, 86, of Waukon died June 4 at the Waukon Good Samaritan Center. Services are pending.

AND THEN I WROTE ...

...that if assorted aches and pains and adult onset illnesses don't remind us senior citizens of our mortality, someone else certainly will.
My last aunt was buried over the Memorial Day weekend.
Fifty years ago, I had 15 aunts and uncles living.
When I mentioned that to a first cousin who is a couple years older than I am, she remarked very matter of factly: “Well, we are the older generation now, you know!”

FACILITIES TEAM EXAMINES SCHOOL BUILDING PROJECT

In a meeting held recently at Waukon Senior High, the Allamakee Community School District School Facilities Committee met in a special work session with the Board of Education to provide an update on the group's progress thus far.
