Darlene D. Jennings, 76, of Springville was called to stand before the Lord Monday, May 5, 2014 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Hiawatha. Per Darlene’s wishes, there will be no services at this time. Burial will take place at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion.

Joseph F. Hartley, 76, of Seneca, WI passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital in Prairie du Chien, WI. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, May 12 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Seneca, WI with Rev. Eugene Wolf and Rev. Zacharie Beya concelebrating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Joe was born May 23, 1937 to Charles and Marian (Ryan) Hartley and grew up in the Iowa River Valley, rural New Albin. He attended Waukon area public schools and graduated in 1955. Joe served in the Marine Corps Reserves and then returned to Iowa to farm.

Lila Hastings Ewing, age 88, died February 23, 2014 in Corvallis, OR following a battle with cancer. She was born December 9, 1925 in Allamakee County, graduated from Waukon High School and moved to Oregon. She was a very talented seamstress and quilter.
Lila is survived by two sons, Lynn Ewing of Coos Bay, OR and Rick Ewing of Texas; one sister, Sylvia Huffman of Waterloo; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Neal; and two brothers, Keith Hastings of Waukon and Ronald Hastings of Missouri.

George L. Ferring, 88, of Lansing passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at Gunderson Lutheran Health Systems in La Crosse, WI. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, May 9 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Lansing. Burial followed at Gethsemane Cemetery, Lansing.
George Lester, the son of John and Emma (Strub) Ferring, was born March 18, 1926 in Waukon. In 1944, George joined the U.S. Navy.  He served for two years on the U.S.S. Oglethorpe, an amphibious cargo ship, alongside his lifelong friend, Jim Schallhorn.

Laurel Hegy, 95, of Lansing died Friday, May 9, 2014 at Thornton Manor in Lansing. There are no services planned at this time.
Laurel was born June 8, 1919 to Joseph F. and Tena (Lund) Hegy in Galesville, WI. He graduated from Galesville High School in 1938.

James A. Gordon, 73, of DeSoto, WI, formerly of Lansing, died Friday, May 2, 2014. Funeral services were held Saturday, May 10 at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home in DeSoto, WI.
James was born August 25, 1940 to Arlie and Elizabeth (Geinzer) Gordon. He is survived by his children, Rhonda (Darrell) Lee, Tim Gordon, Jason Gordon and Melissa (Josh) Kelly; 10 grandchildren; and many cousins, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Ralph F. Schellhammer, 89, of Waukon died Sunday, May 11, 2014 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 14 at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Waukon, with Pastor Grant VanderVelden officiating. Burial will be at Lansing Ridge Cemetery, Lansing. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 13 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.

Mary Elizabeth Reppe, 90, of rural Lansing died Monday, May 5, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, May 10, 2014 at St. Mary's-Lycurgus Catholic Church, rural Waukon, with Rev. John Moser as the Celebrant. Burial followed at St. Mary's-Lycurgus Catholic Church Cemetery, rural Waukon.
Mary was born September 7, 1923 to Anthony and Agnes (Waldron) Ferring at the Thornton House in Lansing. Mary attended country school and Immaculate Conception Catholic School in Lansing.

Maxine Lenone (Smoak) Sander, 87, of Traverse City, MI, formerly of Waukon, died peacefully with her children, and their spouses, by her side Monday, January 20, 2014 at The Grand Traverse Pavilions of Traverse City, MI, where she had been lovingly cared for the last six months of her life.
Memorial services will be held this Saturday, May 10 at 11 a.m. at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon, with Pastor Samantha Houser officiating. A private family burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Waukon at a later date. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon is handling the arrangements.
