SUPERINTENDENT RELEASES PLAN OF ACTION REGARDING MAY 17 THREAT

A threat found inscribed on a girl's rest room stall at the Junior High in Waukon just over two weeks ago has had local officers and school personnel engaged in an investigation, actively seeking to find the perpetrator before the targeted date. Specifically, the note stated that Wed., May 17, "all of your are going to die." The author went on to say, "If you think I'm joking, you will be surprised."

CONSOLIDATION OF LOCAL LEVIES GIVES TAXPAYERS IDEA OF WHAT CAN BE EXPECTED WITH 2000-01 TAX ROLLS

As city, county and school budgeting processes have drawn to a close, property owners can now consolidate any levy increases or decreases to determine the direct result on the year 2000-2001 property tax roll. When also considering significant increases in both residential and agricultural property values, the result of 1999 revaluations, property taxes will be dramatically impacted by this year's budgets.

RACHEL REISER WINS 3000 METER DISTRICT TITLE, IS LONE STATE QUALIFIER FOR INDIAN TRACK GIRLS; INDIANS FOURTH AT WAVERLY-SHELL ROCK INVITATIONAL

All but one member of the Waukon Indian girls track team will be competing in their final meet of the season this Thursday, May 11 at the Northeast Iowa Conference meet in Charles City. With that NEIC meet being the final team meet on this year's schedule, the Monday, May 8 Class 2A District Track Meet the Indians competed in extended only the season of senior distance runner Rachel Reiser to this year's state track meet.

FIRST DEGREE MURDER CASE RESCHEDULED

The jury trial of Gerardo Gonzalez, 23, of Postville, scheduled for Wednesday, May 3, has been postponed until Tuesday, July 11, to allow time for additional investigation.
Gonazalez is charged with the first degree murder of Francisco Costilla Castaniera, 23, also of Postville, Jan. 15 of this year.
A request filed by defense attorneys asking that the court case be tried in another county has been denied.

Clifford Soride

Clifford E. Soride, 74, of rural Postville, died May 7, 2000, at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City, following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held May 10, 1 p.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon with Rev. Lynn G. Groe officiating. Burial with military graveside rites will be in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Tuesday at Martin Funeral Home, Waukon.

Dorothy Huff

Dorothy M. Huff, 72, of Monona, died May 5, 2000, at Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital, Prairie du Chien, WI, after a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held May 8 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon with Rev. Steve Campbell officiating. Burial was in Smithfield Cemetery, rural Postville.

Karl Kelleher

Karl F. Kelleher, 72, of Cedar Rapids, died May 4, 2000, at his home after a brief illness. Funeral services were held May 8 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Lansing with Fr. Herbert Tegler officiating. Burial was in Gethsemene Cemetery, Lansing.

George Duffy

George Duffy, 68, of Waukon, died May 4, 2000, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services were held May 8 at Hanson Funeral Home of Waukon under the direction of Rev. Ed Lechtenberg. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Dorchester.
George was born Oct. 5, 1931, in Waukon, to parents William and Loretta Henry Duffy. He was a farmer and construction laborer for most of his life, living in Waukon as well as Cedar Rapids.
He is preceded in death by three brothers, William, Milton and Charles Duffy; and two sisters, Marjorie and Mary Duffy.

Ella B. Kirkeby

Ella B. Kirkeby, 93, of Decorah, died April 30, 2000, at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah. Funeral services were held May 3 at First Lutheran Church in Decorah under the direction of Rev. Steven M. Jacobsen. Burial was in Pontoppidan Cemetery, rural Decorah.

PERPETRATOR OF THREATENING MESSAGE YET UNDETERMINED

In regard to a threatening note found inscribed on a Junior High rest room wall nearly two weeks ago, school officials and local police officers say they are still following leads.
"Nothing has yet been confirmed," says Phil Young, Waukon police officer investigating the case. "However, we will continue to follow up on all possibilities."
