Kee football team brings season to a close with 56-6 District 4 road loss at Midland

The Kee football brought its 2015 season to a close with a 56-6 loss at Midland-Wyoming Friday, October 23. Even though the host Eagles were cruising into an already determined State Play-Off qualification, they certainly didn’t leave anything to chance in racking up 327 yards of total offense in comparison to Kee’s 190 total yards, including a 100-47 advantage on the ground and 227 yards and five touchdowns through the air. The Hawks, however, also offered their fair share of help in turning the ball over six times with three each of fumbles and interceptions on the wet, cool evening, one of those interceptions being returned 54 yards for a Midland touchdown.

The 2015 season was brought to a close for the Waukon girls cross country team Thursday, October 22 at the Indians’ Class 2A State Qualifying Meet hosted by Monticello. The Lady Indians came up short of the top-three team finish and top-15 individual finish requirements for State Meet qualification, scoring 266 team points to finish 12th in the 13-team scoring field.
The meet featured four or the top three rated teams in Class 2A at season’s end, all three of them battling to continue their season at this year’s State Meet Saturday, October 31. In a fairly tight team race, top-rated Monticello joined third-rated Cascade and fourth-rated South Winneshiek in earning that State Meet qualification, with just eight points separating the three teams.

Waukon football team ends regular season with 46-12 triumph at Oelwein

Knowing full well what needed to be done on its own behalf to secure the best possible State Play-Off seeding it could, the Waukon football team more than took care of its own business in ending the 2015 regular season with a 46-12 romp at single-win Oelwein Friday, October 23. With their own part of securing the greatest margin of victory allowed (13 points) for any play-off seeding tie-breaker well in hand, the Indians needed further help with a loss by North Fayette Valley and only a single-digit win by Dyersville Beckman to ascend the play-off seeding ladder as best it could.

If ever a three-set loss could provide a sense of pride, the Waukon volleyball team may very well have experienced just that in its first-round regional tournament loss at New Hampton Monday, October 26. The volleyball Indians were swept in three straight sets by the host Chickasaws, 21-25, 18-25 and 11-25, but gave New Hampton a much better fight than in any of the previous matches the two teams squared off in this season.
The Indians wrapped up their 2015 season with a 6-28 overall record, including a 1-5 mark in Northeast Iowa Conference play that placed them sixth in the final seven-team standings. With the win, New Hampton advanced on to play Osage this Thursday, October 29 after the Green Devils also swept Crestwood by scores of 25-14, 25-19 and 25-12 in first-round action.

Waukon football team to host Union in first-round State Play-Off game Wednesday

The Waukon football team did its part in clinching its best possible seeding for the Class 2A State Play-Offs by wrapping up the 2015 regular season with a 46-12 rout at Oelwein Friday, October 23 for an 8-1 overall record and 5-1 mark in Class 2A District 3. Unfortunately, North Fayette Valley, the only team to defeat the Indians this season, also did its part on its own behalf, defeating New Hampton, 19-0, to wrap up the top play-off seed in Class 2A District 3. But the Indians did get some help from Dyersville Beckman in clinching the number-two play-off seed and a first-round home play-off game. The Indians needed Beckman to either lose, or only win by nine or fewer points while the Indians needed to win by at least four points more than any single-digit Beckman winning margin.

Members of the Waukon boys cross country team display their State Qualifier banner after running to a second-place team finish at the Class 2A State Qualifying Meet hosted by Monticello Thursday, October 22. Pictured above, left to right, are: Front row - Juniors Austin Day and Tyler O’Neill. Back row - Seniors Tanner Manning, Kameron Klinge, T.J. Treptau and Isaac Fink, and junior Hunter Jensen. Heading to the home of the top-rated team in Class 2A, the Waukon cross country boys knew they would have their work cut out for them if they wanted to advance out of their Class 2A State Qualifying Meet at Monticello Thursday, October 22. Even though they couldn’t quite keep pace with the meet’s championship total of just 32 points scored by the highest-regarded host Panthers, the Indians did improve on their State qualifying third-place finish from last season by placing second at Thursday’s meet with a team total of 106 points.
The top-rated Panthers of Monticello claimed three of the top four individual finishes at the meet and placed all five of their team-scored runners within the meet’s top 16 individuals on their way to those 32 championship points. A top-15 individual finish is required for advancement on to the State Meet, as well as a top-three finish for an entire team to advance.

The Indians wrapped up their regular season with a 6-27 overall record, including a 1-5 mark in Northeast Iowa Conference play that placed them sixth in the final seven-team standings. The Indians are scheduled to begin postseason tournament play Monday, October 26 at and against New Hampton.

Waukon football team clinches play-off spot with 44-17 home win over CPU

Waukon football senior Colin Steiber (#25 at left) gets a key block from fellow senior Joe Frieden (#61 in middle) and sets up another block by senior Chris Miller (#52 at right) on his way to a career night of carrying the football in the Indians’ 44-17 home win over Center Point-Urbana Friday, October 16. With the help of his front line teammates and a determined effort to not be stopped, Steiber blasted his way through the Stormin’ Pointer defense for 211 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries in the contest. View and find out how to purchase this photo and many more by clicking on the Photo Galleries link.

After being denied a third consecutive State Play-Off qualification last season, the Waukon football team has played its way back to the postseason, clinching that reservation with a 44-17 triumph over Center Point-Urbana (CPU) to wrap up the Tribe’s home regular season schedule Friday, October 16. In a bit of gridiron justice, the play-off securing win over the Stormin’ Pointers comes after CPU had denied that Indian quest of continuing its play-off qualification streak last season with a 27-20 loss that went down to the final moments of play.
