Kee cross country team runs in pair of meets

The Kee cross country team competed in a pair of meets this past week, posting varsity team scores at each event. The Hawks finished eighth at the Clayton Ridge Invitational Tuesday, September 9 before placing 13th as a team at the North Fayette Valley Invitational Saturday, September 13.
The Hawks were scheduled to compete in the Starmont Invitational Tuesday, September 16 before taking part in the Central Elkader Invitational Thursday, September 18. Kee is then scheduled to run at the Waukon Invitational the following Tuesday, September 23.

Waukon football team picks up season’s first win, 40-16 over Crestwood


Waukon football senior Adam Benzing battles this Crestwood defender for a good gain in the Indians’ 40-16 win at home over the Cadets Friday, September 12. Benzing scored a pair of touchdowns on four pass receptions for 51 yards and also carried the ball twice for 24 yards to aid the Indian effort in the win. The Waukon football team played its most balanced game of the season, an effort that resulted in the Indians’ first victory of their 2014 campaign, 40-16, over Class 3A Crestwood at home Friday, September 12. Amassing a fairly consistent 195 yards through the air once again, this time the gridiron Tribe complemented that air attack with a nearly equal 182 yards on the ground to more than double-up the visiting Cadets in total yards, 377-158, as well as on the scoreboard.
The Indians are scheduled to open Class 2A District 3 play at a recently familiar foe from the last two play-off postseasons, Dyersville Beckman, this Friday, September 19. The Blazers are off to a 2-1 start this season, including a 14-0 loss to Western Dubuque in Week 2 and wins of 42-0 and 30-0 over Maquoketa and Oelwein, that win over Oelwein coming this past Friday.

Waukon volleyball team splits dual pair, wins one of three at Kepros Tourney

The Waukon volleyball team faced a much busier schedule this past week, starting the week with back-to-back dual meets before competing in a weekend tournament. The Indians split those two dual dates, sweeping MFL/MarMac in straight sets on the road, 25-17, 25-10 and 25-16, Monday, September 8 before falling at home to Decorah Tuesday, September 9 in four sets by scores of 22-25, 6-25, 25-19 and 22-25. The Tribe then won just one out of three matches it played at the annual Kepros Tournament hosted by Crestwood High School in Cresco Saturday, September 13 to currently hold a 7-5 overall match record, including a 0-1 start to its Northeast Iowa Conference season.
The Indians will next prepare to host their own home invitational tournament this Saturday, September 20 before returning to dual match play Tuesday, September 23 against Oelwein.

Waukon volleyball team sweeps Postville in season’s first dual

The Waukon volleyball team started its dual match season off in sweeping fashion Tuesday, September 2, taking all three sets from the host Pirates in a non-conference match at Postville. The Indians swept through the Pirates by scores of 25-14, 25-11 and 25-16.

The Indians were scheduled to play in back-to-back matches to begin this week, Monday, September 8 at MFL/MarMac and Tuesday, September 9 at home against Decorah, before playing in the Crestwood Tournament this Saturday, September 13. The Tribe will then host its own home invitational tournament September 20.

Waukon boys cross country team runs to fourth-place finish behind top-five ranked trio at Oelwein

The Waukon boys cross country team got its 2014 season off to a promising start, placing fourth out of 19 teams at the Oelwein Invitational Tuesday, September 2. The Indians tallied 152 team points to finish just beyond the pace-setting trio of three top-five ranked teams, Class 3A fourth-rated Center Point Urbana and second-rated Decorah, and Class 1A second-rated Denver.

Waukon girls cross country team begins 2014 season with 11th-place finish at Oelwein

The Waukon girls cross country team got its 2014 campaign underway finishing near the middle of the pack at the Oelwein Invitational Tuesday, September 2. The Indians tallied a total of 339 team points to finish 11th in the 17-team field of scoring schools.

Kee football team routs Rockford, 42-14

The Kee football team improved its season record to 2-0 with a non-district romp at Rockford, 42-14, Friday, September 5. The Hawks once again dominated the first three quarters of the ballgame, cruising to a 42-0 advantage through three complete frames before allowing Rockford to finally get on the board in the final period.

The Hawks will now open Eight-Player District 4 play at eight-player newcomer Turkey Valley this Friday, September 12. The Trojans are also undefeated against the same two teams Kee has posted wins against so far this season, downing Rockford, 54-12, in Week 1 and Riceville, 40-14, this past Friday.

Waukon football team comes up just short at Decorah, 23-22

The Waukon football team renewed a bit of a gridiron rivalry in the second game of its 2014 season, traveling to fellow Northeast Iowa Conference school Decorah Friday, September 5 to play the host Vikings for the first time in several seasons. In a battle of Indian air vs. Viking ground, the game came down to the final minutes and some special teams play before the host school was able to secure the 23-22 Indian defeat.

The Indians are scheduled to play host to another Northeast Iowa Conference School when the Class 3A Crestwood Cadets come to town this Friday, September 12 for a battle of teams yet winless in each of their early-season schedules. The Cadets come off a 28-6 loss at home to Hampton-Dumont this past Friday, September 5.

Kee volleyball team surrenders match pair to Turkey Valley, New Hampton

The Kee volleyball team suffered a reversal of fortune this week from its initial week of competition, falling in a road triangular at Turkey Valley Thursday, September 4 to even up the Hawks’ season record at 2-2 in their fairly conservative early-season schedule. The Lady Hawks were swept in three sets each by both Class 1A seventh-rated Turkey Valley and Class 3A New Hampton.

The Hawks are next scheduled to play at South Winneshiek this Thursday, September 11 before competing in the Crestwood Invitational Saturday, September 13. Kee will then play host to Central Elkader Tuesday, September 16 before taking part in the Waukon Tournament Saturday, September 20.

Kee volleyball team begins season with home sweep of Seneca and De Soto, WI

The Kee volleyball team opened its 2014 campaign with a sweep of a home double-dual with Wisconsin schools from De Soto and Seneca Thursday, August 28. The Hawks dealt with De Soto quite handily by scores of 25-15, 25-13 and 25-22 but got a much tougher battled from Seneca before edging out a five-set victory with scores of 12-25, 25-14, 25-15, 23-25 and 16-14.

The Hawks are next scheduled to take on Class 1A 11th-rated Turkey Valley and Class 3A New Hampton at Turkey Valley Thursday, September 4 before playing at South Winn Thursday, September 11.
